Kevin Durant of the Brooklyn Nets is recovering from a strained MCL injury but his name was still front-and-center in Sunday’s All-Star Game.

In fact, he was one of the team captains for the big game.

But Durant wasn’t in attendance for Sunday’s event and many fans were left wondering why.

Sadly, the reason for his absence was a heart-breaking one.

Durant’s grandmother, Barbara, passed away Sunday morning and so Durant chose to be with his family instead of attending the game.

Not only was Durant not available to cheer his team on from the sidelines, he also wasn’t involved with the 75th anniversary team festivities surrounding the game.

Doing It Without Durant

The absence of Durant during Sunday’s game was totally understandable and it’s a good thing he was able to take the time off to mourn with his family.

Even without him, his squad did quite well and almost won the game, losing by only three points.

However, now fans are wondering when they’ll see him back with his Nets.

Without Durant, Brooklyn has completely collapsed and their hopes of making it far into the postseason have evaporated – for now.

But there is still a chance – a rather big one, in fact – that the team can recover once he returns.

Sadly, the timetable for his return to the court is still up in the air.

But when he comes back – and newcomer Ben Simmons suits up for the first time – the Nets will have to work extra hard to reclaim their status as one of the best teams in the Eastern Conference.

Until then, Durant should take the needed time off to take care of his body and his family.
