Who’s Playing

TCU @ Iowa State

Current Records: TCU 5-6; Iowa State 6-5

What to Know

The Iowa State Cyclones will be returning home after a two-game road trip. Iowa State and the TCU Horned Frogs will face off in a Big 12 battle at 4:30 p.m. ET Friday at Jack Trice Stadium. TCU will be strutting in after a win while the Cyclones will be stumbling in from a defeat.

Iowa State came up short against the Oklahoma Sooners last week, falling 28-21. A silver lining for Iowa State was the play of TE Charlie Kolar, who caught 12 passes for one TD and 152 yards. That receiving effort made it the first game that Kolar has posted more than 100 yards receiving.

Meanwhile, TCU narrowly escaped with a victory as the squad sidled past the Kansas Jayhawks 31-28. The overall outcome was to be expected, but the Jayhawks made it more of a matchup than the oddsmakers had predicted. RB Kendre Miller and WR Derius Davis were among the main playmakers for the Horned Frogs as the former rushed for one TD and 112 yards on 12 carries and the latter punched in one rushing touchdown in addition to catching six passes for 103 yards. That touchdown — a 56-yard rush in the third quarter — was one of the highlights of the contest.

This next game looks promising for the Cyclones, who are favored by a full 15 points. Now might not be the best time to take Iowa State against the spread since they’ve let down bettors for the past two consecutive games.

Iowa State is now 6-5 while TCU sits at a mirror-image 5-6. A couple defensive stats to keep in the back of your head while watching: Iowa State is 178th worst in the nation in passing touchdowns allowed, with 17 on the season. The Horned Frogs have experienced some struggles of their own as they are stumbling into the matchup with the 244th most rushing touchdowns allowed in the nation, having given up 30 on the season. It’s possible one of these Achilles’ heels will wind up tripping the losing team up.

Who’s Playing

Los Angeles @ Arizona

Current Records: Los Angeles 1-1; Arizona 1-1

What to Know

The Los Angeles Rams are 11-2 against the Arizona Cardinals since October of 2016, and they’ll have a chance to extend that success on Sunday. Los Angeles will head out on the road to face off against Arizona at 4:25 p.m. ET at State Farm Stadium. The Rams won both of their matches against Arizona last season (30-23 and 34-11) and are aiming for the same result this time around.

Los Angeles didn’t have too much breathing room in their contest with the Atlanta Falcons this past Sunday, but they still walked away with a 31-27 victory. WR Cooper Kupp was the offensive standout of the game for Los Angeles, catching 11 passes for two TDs and 108 yards.

Meanwhile, it may have taken overtime to finish the job, but the Cardinals ultimately got the result they were hoping for this past Sunday with a 29-23 win over the Las Vegas Raiders. Arizona was down 20 to nothing at the end of the half, but the squad rallied to mount a spectacular comeback. No one had a standout game offensively for Arizona, but they got scores from WR Greg Dortch and RB Darrel Williams.

Los Angeles is the favorite in this one, with an expected 3.5-point margin of victory. They have failed bettors playing the spread in all their past two games, so buyers beware.

Their wins lifted both teams to an identical 1-1. We’ll see which team can carry over their success and which team inevitably falls when Los Angeles and Arizona clash.
