The experts predicted a victory for the UCLA Bruins, but it’s no sure thing at this point. At halftime neither squad has the game in the bag, but UCLA leads 17-14 over the California Golden Bears. The Bruins have been riding high on the performance of QB Dorian Thompson-Robinson, who has passed for one TD and 63 yards on 15 attempts in addition to picking up 47 yards on the ground.

UCLA and California came into this contest with previous-game wins. Since either team has a chance to claim another win, we’ll find out who wants it more.

What to Know

Get ready for a Pac-12 battle as the California Golden Bears and the UCLA Bruins will face off at 10:30 p.m. ET on Saturday at Rose Bowl. Both teams are strolling into their contest after big wins in their previous games.

After constant struggles on the road, California has finally found some success away from home. They were the clear victors by a 41-11 margin over the Stanford Cardinal. The game was all but wrapped up at the end of the third, by which point the Golden Bears had established a 27-3 advantage. RB Marcel Dancy and RB Christopher Brown Jr. were among the main playmakers for California as the former punched in two rushing touchdowns and the latter picked up 131 yards on the ground on 13 carries in addition to snatching one receiving TD. Dancy put himself on the highlight reel with a 76-yard TD scramble in the third quarter. Dancy’s sharp performance set his single-game rushing touchdown high for the season.

Meanwhile, UCLA took their matchup against the USC Trojans last week by a conclusive 62-33 score. It was another big night for UCLA’s QB Dorian Thompson-Robinson, who passed for four TDs and 349 yards on 22 attempts in addition to rushing for two TDs and 46 yards. Thompson-Robinson’s 58-yard touchdown toss to RB Kazmeir Allen in the second quarter made for one of the most memorable moments of the evening.

California is expected to lose this next one by 6.5. However, those who like betting on the underdog should be happy to hear that they are 2-0 against the spread when expected to lose.

Their wins bumped the Golden Bears to 4-6 and the Bruins to 7-4. With both California and UCLA swaggering in after impressive performances, it will be interesting to see which team steps up to teach the other some humility.

Former Player Offers A Solution To Justin Fields, Bears Drama

Heading into his third season as a member of the Chicago Bears, many expected quarterback Justin Fields to take the next step in his development and potentially even break out in a similar fashion to the way Philadelphia Eagles quarterback Jalen Hurts did in 2022.

Through three games, however, Fields and the Bears are 0-3, and it seems like the young quarterback is actually worse than he was last season.

Last week, Fields made some comments (that he then backtracked on) that hinted at Chicago’s coaches being part of the reason for his struggles this year.

Following those comments, former NFL All-Pro cornerback Charles Woodson believes the ball is now in Fields’ court to basically put up or shut up, via FOX Sports: NFL.

“For Justin Fields, you gotta play your way out of Chicago or play the coaches up outta there. That’s the way I see it. Either you’re going to play well in spite of the coaches, or you’re going to play really bad. This is your time to either say, ‘I want to be in Chicago’ or ‘I’m really that bad, and they’re going to get rid of me anyway.’”

Woodson is very familiar with playing for a poor-performing team as he was a member of the Raiders for multiple years when they failed to qualify for the playoffs.

Despite the Raiders’ lack of success during his tenure with the franchise, Woodson still continued to play at a high level, and it ultimately resulted in him landing with a much more stable organization in the Green Bay Packers.

So it seems like Woodson is speaking from his own experience and attempting to send a message to Fields to keep striving to be the best, no matter how much the Bears struggle this season.

Will the quarterback find a way to bounce back from his early-season slump or will he give Chicago more reasons to consider moving on from him in 2024?
