The Minnesota Twins are taking a chance on a veteran pitcher who was once an All-Star with the Toronto Blue Jays.

Late yesterday afternoon, the Twins inked right-hander Aaron Sanchez to a minor league deal.

Sanchez will report to the Twins Triple-A affiliate, the St. Paul Saints.

The right-hander and former first-round draft pick in 2010 made seven starts earlier this season for the Washington Nationals.

Sanchez went 3-3 with an 8.33 ERA.

For his career, Sanchez is 38-37 with a 4.14 ERA.

Twins insider Dustin Morse reported the news of Sanchez joining the team, tweeting about the recent transaction made by the American League Central division leaders.

Sanchez Gets Another Shot

Clearly, the start of the 2022 season was not a good one for the former All-Star.

But he put up mostly good numbers while with the Blue Jays.

If he can find that form again, the Twins could have a viable option in their starting rotation going forward.

His best season as a starter was 2016, where he went 15-2 with a 3.00 ERA in 30 starts.

He had a 3.96 ERA over six seasons with the Blue Jays.

The Twins lead the AL Central by 4.5 games over the second-place Cleveland Guardians.

They’ve already got Sonny Gray, Joe Ryan, and Dylan Bundy in their rotation.

If Sanchez can regain his form and show what he’s capable of, then the Twins’ rotation could become that much stronger.

He could also be used as a potential bullpen piece.

He was a solid reliever in his rookie season in 2014.

That year, he went 2-2 with a 1.09 ERA over 24 appearances.

If he gets back on track, there are a number of different ways that the Twins might be able to use him.
