The free agent market is mostly picked over at this point, with all of the top stars, save for right-hander Michael Wacha, having already signed with new clubs or re-upped with their old teams.

But there is one market that hasn’t seen much action yet, and that is the relief pitcher’s market.

Several viable options, such as Zack Britton, Andrew Chafin, Matt Moore, and Brad Hand remain unsigned.

But according to MLB analyst Steve Phillips, the Los Angeles Angels have their eye on one of the aforementioned left-handers, specifically Zack Britton.

Phillips discussed these rumors with the Hot Stove crew on MLB Network this morning.

Phillips talked about how Britton wasn’t quite himself when he returned from Tommy John surgery with the New York Yankees last season and how that might be a slight concern.

But he also mentioned that the team currently has four left-handers in their starting rotation and that their bullpen is full of right-handers.

Adding Britton to the mix would give them a left-hander and the ability to mix and match some as Phillips mentioned.

He would be a strong veteran presence who is also capable of closing games, having done so for many years with the Baltimore Orioles.

There could be one potential issue, however.

Phillips noted that the New York Mets are also in on the veteran lefty, which could pose a problem for the Halos.

Mets owner Steve Cohen has shown that the luxury tax thresholds aren’t an issue to him, and outbidding him will be challenging for the Angels.
