Texas scored the game’s first 17 points and erupted for 35 in the third quarter en route to a 69-31 victory. The Longhorns (4-7, 2-6) attempt to extend their winning streak in the series to five games when they host the Wildcats (7-4, 4-4) on Friday in the 2021 regular-season finale for both Big 12 Conference teams.

Kickoff at Darrell K Royal-Texas Memorial Stadium in Austin, Tex. is set for noon ET. The Longhorns are three-point favorites in the latest Texas vs. Kansas State odds from Caesars Sportsbook, while the over-under for total points scored is 52.5. Featured Game | Texas Longhorns vs. Kansas State Wildcats

Why Texas can cover

The Longhorns did most of their damage in last year’s triumph on the ground, rushing for 334 yards and seven touchdowns. Bijan Robinson and Roschon Johnson were unstoppable, with both scoring three times while the former gained 172 yards and the latter recording 139. Robinson is out for this matchup with a dislocated elbow, but Johnson is coming off a 77-yard, one-touchdown outing against West Virginia and hopes for another big performance versus the Wildcats.

With one Robinson unavailable last week, Texas’ offense relied on another as sophomore Keilan Robinson rushed nine times for a career-high 111 yards and a touchdown in the 31-23 loss to the Mountaineers. The transfer from Alabama had only eight carries for 61 yards in his previous five outings. Freshman wideout Xavier Worthy is the top weapon in the Longhorns’ aerial attack as he is tied for fourth in the nation with 12 touchdown catches while leading the team with 56 receptions and 916 yards.

Why Kansas State can cover

The Wildcats could be without senior quarterback Skylar Thompson in their season finale due to the ankle injury he suffered against Baylor on Saturday, but as long as Deuce Vaughn is on the field, they have a chance to succeed. The sophomore running back recorded his fourth straight 100-yard performance and ninth in 13 games dating back to last season when he gained 128 on 11 carries versus the Bears. Vaughn, who also ran for a touchdown in the loss, is 17th in the nation with 1,115 rushing yards and tied for 10th with 14 TD runs.

Vaughn also is one of Kansas State’s top receivers, ranking second on the team with 464 yards while leading in catches (45) and scoring receptions (three). He trails junior wideout Phillip Brooks by just one yard for first on the Wildcats. On the other side of the ball, sophomore defensive end Felix Anudike-Uzomah has gone two games without a sack but is tied for third in the nation with 11 this season.

How to make Texas vs. Kansas State picks

SportsLine’s model is leaning over on the total, projecting 63 combined points. It also has generated an against-the-spread pick that cashes in well over 50 percent of simulations. You can only get the model’s Kansas State vs. Texas pick at SportsLine.

So who wins Texas vs. Kansas State? And which side of the spread hits well over 50 percent of the time? Visit SportsLine now to see which side of the Kansas State vs. Texas spread to back, all from the advanced model that is up almost $3,700 on its top-rated college football spread picks, and find out.

NFL Updates Its Betting Policy For Players

Published

on

With sports betting sweeping the nation in terms of becoming legal in more states than ever before, the NFL has started to embrace gambling as part of its product, with the act no longer being frowned upon but profited from.

Even though California has yet to embrace sports gambling, more than half the states in the country have made it legal, which makes for a lot of revenue to be made, especially now that the league is all-in.

However, along with it being legal to gamble on NFL games throughout the majority of the country comes a higher risk of players trying to take advantage of gambling on their games or on other teams in the league, which can turn out to be a messy situation that needs to be controlled.

On Friday, the NFL took a stricter stance with a new anti-sports gambling policy for players in the league, with some severe penalties, according to Jonathan Jones of NFL on CBS.

So, according to the new policy in the NFL, if a player bets on his team, it will result in an indefinite suspension of two years, which in some cases could mean a playing career could be over.

If an NFL player simply bets on NFL football in general, that will result in a minimum of one year of being suspended.

If an NFL player tries to fix an NFL game, that’s the most severe penalty, which will result in that player being banished by the league, and understandably so.

Jerry Jones Shares His Thoughts On Ezekiel Elliott’s Cowboys Career

Published

on

After spending his entire NFL career with the Dallas Cowboys, Ezekiel Elliott was released by the team during the offseason in somewhat of a surprising move, as he scored 12 touchdowns last season while taking a backseat to Pro Bowler Tony Pollard.

Although all signs pointed to Elliott ultimately returning to the Cowboys for the 2023 NFL season, the New England Patriots came out of nowhere and signed him to a deal so he could share the backfield with Rhamondre Stevenson.

Last week, Elliott had his best game with his new team, as he rushed for 80 yards on 16 carries in the win over the New York Jets.

Now, Elliott will head back to where it all began for him on the professional level, as the Patriots will go on the road to face the Cowboys at AT&T Stadium in Week 4.

Ahead of Elliott’s return to Dallas, Cowboys team owner Jerry Jones talked about the running back’s legacy with the team and went as far as to compare this reunion to when Hall of Famer Emmitt Smith returned to Dallas with the Arizona Cardinals, according to Jon Machota of The Athletic.

That’s a bold statement for Jones to make because even though Elliott had a solid stint with the Cowboys, which resulted in three Pro Bowl selections, he was no Smith when comparing legacies.

Even though there is no comparison to Smith, Jones clearly respected the impact that Elliott made while he was with the Cowboys and will honor him when the time comes.

Despite lopsided win vs. Rays, celebration remains on hold for Blue Jays

Published

on

TORONTO – The Toronto Blue Jays are almost there now, on the verge of a fifth post-season berth in nine years, left to wait for an out-of-town loss or another chance to lock it down on their home-field, their celebration on hold until the time comes.

“It’s definitely more fun if it’s like right after the game and you can run in there because in the last couple innings, you get a feel for how the game’s going to end up, and if you have a lead, there’s nothing better than the excitement of everybody knowing that we’re about to go pop bottles, you know?” said ace Kevin Gausman. “So, yeah, it’s going to be a little bit different this year. But it doesn’t matter how it happens, as long as it happens. You’re always going to be happy.”

An 11-4 beatdown of the Tampa Bay Rays on Friday night pushed the Blue Jays (89-71) right up to the finish line, in need of either a loss by the Seattle Mariners (86-73) or another victory in their final two games to break through the ribbon. They talked about hanging out to see what happens with their expansion cousins, who were hosting the Texas Rangers, but Gausman said the players didn’t want to risk “sitting around for no reason with a day game” on Saturday.

“You want to do it here with everybody and with these West Coast games ending at 12, 12:30 at night, everyone’s got to get back to their families and tuck the kids in, can’t really wait around here,” added Kevin Kiermaier, who had two hits and a sacrifice fly that capped a three-run third. “Ideally you would want to show up and be like, hey, we win today, we’re popping bottles, we’re celebrating. But nothing has come easy for us all year. So this is kind of fitting in a way.”

Very much so, as the Blue Jays have had to grind so often to get to this point.

Their outburst at the plate Friday, before a raucous Rogers Centre crowd of 42,394, made for an atypically one-sided night.

Alejandro Kirk opened the scoring with a solo shot in the second, expanded the lead with a two-run single in the third ahead of Kiermaier’s sac fly before Brandon Belt’s solo shot and Cavan Biggio’s Little League two-run homer – his base hit to centre slipped under Manuel Margot’s glove and rolled to the wall – in the fourth and Matt Chapman’s solo shot in the fifth made it 8-0.

A two-run homer by Yandy Diaz and two-run single by Junior Caminero during a sixth inning that Yusei Kikuchi, pushed up a day to better set him up for potential post-season usage, started but didn’t finish, created a hint of tension, but not really.

Biggio’s two-run double in the bottom half and an RBI double by Bo Bichette in the seventh, his fourth hit of the game, pushed the lead back up to 11-4 and the good times kept rolling.

While nothing was locked down for the Blue Jays, both they and the Rays (97-63) clearly had an eye towards the post-season. Tampa manager Kevin Cash only let starter Adam Civale go through the lineup once before bull-penning his way through the rest of the night, while slowly pulling out starters as the game went on.

Blue Jays manager John Schneider, meanwhile, moved Kikuchi up in place of Hyun Jin Ryu while riding with his new lineup featuring Belt in the two-hole and Bichette batting fourth.

All the while, though, the anticipation of securing the playoff berth they’ve worked so hard for hung in the background.

“However you do it is the best way to do it to give yourself a chance in the post-season,” Schneider said of the unusual clinch scenario. “We’ll adjust if we have to. But hopefully we can get that done.”

Whit Merrifield compared the gap in time “to waiting for a big party with your boys.”

I think we all would have liked to have had a better offensive year, collectively and individually, but we didn’t. The thing about this team is we’ve got great arms and great defence and that’s why we’re in the position we’re in, because we didn’t need to rely just on the bats to get us to the post-season,” he added. “Once you get into the post-season all that (stuff) gets thrown out the window, none of that matters anymore. It’s a clean slate. You go and play, stats don’t matter, it’s all about who performs in the fall. That’s really what you strive to get to. We had a deep enough and well-rounded enough team to get to where everyone wants to get to.”

Whether this group produces a different outcome than last year’s team in October is to be determined.

“I thought we had everything we needed last year,” said Bichette. “I think we have everything we need this year. I mean, maybe experience, bringing in more guys with experience, maybe it’s just how it lines up this year. But we compete really well. We play really hard. There’s definitely not going to be a stone unturned in the post-season in terms of effort and attention to detail. I think we have everything we need and we will see if we can get it done.”
