Who’s Playing

SMU @ Temple

Current Records: SMU 18-5; Temple 13-9

What to Know

The Temple Owls haven’t won a game against the SMU Mustangs since Feb. 8 of 2020, but they’ll be looking to end the drought on Wednesday. Temple and SMU will face off in an American Athletic battle at 9 p.m. ET at Liacouras Center. The Owls are out to keep their three-game home win streak alive.

Temple came up short against the Tulane Green Wave on Saturday, falling 92-83. Temple’s defeat shouldn’t obscure the performances of forward Zach Hicks, who shot 5-for-11 from beyond the arc and finished with 21 points and seven rebounds, and guard Tai Strickland, who had 15 points and five assists. Strickland hadn’t helped his team much against the South Florida Bulls last week, so this was a nice turnaround for him.

Meanwhile, SMU had enough points to win and then some against the East Carolina Pirates on Saturday, taking their matchup 80-66. The Mustangs got double-digit scores from four players: guard Emmanuel Bandoumel (23), guard Michael Weathers (13), forward Marcus Weathers (11), and guard Zach Nutall (10).

The Owls are expected to lose this next one by 4.5. However, those who like betting on the underdog should be happy to hear that they are 7-3 against the spread when expected to lose.

Temple is now 13-9 while SMU sits at 18-5. A pair of numbers to keep in mind before tip-off: Temple has only been able to knock down 40.50% percent of their shots, which is the 18th lowest field goal percentage in college basketball. The Mustangs’ defense has more to brag about, as they they have been holding their opponents to a field goal percentage of 40.20%, which places them 31st in college basketball. So the cards are definitely stacked in their favor.

Panthers’ Maurice confirms Radko Gudas will play in Game 3 vs. Golden Knights

Published

on

Florida Panthers defenceman Radko Gudas is officially ready for Game 3 of the Stanley Cup Final, according to head coach Paul Maurice.

Maurice told reporters Thursday morning that Gudas will play as the Panthers looked to claw their way out of a 2-0 series hole.

Gudas left Game 2 early after a massive collision with Vegas Golden Knights forward Ivan Barbashev that saw Gudas slammed to the ice.

The Czech enforcer has been a physical presence of the Panthers so far in the playoffs, recording 30 blocks and a league-leading 81 hits through 18 games.

He had already been dealing with an injury prior to Game 2 and coach Paul Maurice dressed seven defencemen in preparation for Gudas to potentially not be able to handle a full workload. He played 11:30 in Game 1.

Mike Malone Says He May Have Figured Out Winning Formula For Nuggets

Published

on

It’s not a secret that the Denver Nuggets need Nikola Jokic on the floor.

They’ve built a solid squad and have a plethora of talent around him, so they could win multiple games without him but not an NBA championship.

Notably, coach Mike Malone may have just realized this, as he recently claimed that he cracked the code as to how to win this series.

The Nuggets coach jokingly said that the winning formula was to have Jokic on the floor for the entire second half, stating that he may not give him a second of rest in the second half for the remainder of the series.

Jokic was on the floor for a whopping 44 minutes, resting just four minutes in the whole contest.

He was spectacular in his time on the court, torching the Miami Heat’s defense for 32 points, 21 rebounds, 10 assists, two blocks, and one three-pointer on 12/21 from the floor.

Jokic has established himself as the most unique offensive force in the league.

He’s the ultimate triple-threat player, as he can shoot from all three levels, drive, or kick it out to an open teammate with his elite passing skills.

There’s a chance someone might eventually figure out how to stop him, but that may not happen in the next couple of games.

The Nuggets are just two wins away from winning their first championship in franchise history.

It’s been a physically exhausting season, but Jokic and company will have plenty of time to relax and restore their bodies once they finish the job.
