Rangers extend manager Chris Woodward’s contract through 2023 with club option for 2024

The Texas Rangers have announced that they’ve agreed to a contract extension through the 2023 season with manager Chris Woodward. The deal also includes a club option for the 2024 season. Woodward was previously signed through the 2022 season, so this new deal helps him to avoid going into next season as a lame duck.

Woodward, 45, was hired to manage the Rangers in November of 2018. His record so far in three seasons with the Rangers:

  • 2019: 78-84
  • 2020: 22-38
  • 2021: 60-102

Obviously, that’s a downward trend from the first season through last season, but the Rangers haven’t exactly given him a ton of big-league talent to work with. The front office powers-that-be appear to have liked what they’ve seen with him in the job would like to give  him at least two more years to show his stuff with what they hope will be a lot more talent.

Speaking of which, the Rangers could be among the biggest free agent spenders this offseason. The only salaried player on the roster is Jose Leclerc, who is set to make $5.25 million in 2022. Sitting in that new ballpark and likely wanting to give people in the Arlington area reason to spend on the product, ownership will likely open the pocketbook in a big way.

Once there’s a better product on the field, we’ll all have the chance to better evaluate Woodward here in his first career managerial job. Prior to taking this job, Woodward was the Dodgers‘ third-base coach for three seasons after serving as an infield coordinator and first-base coach with the Mariners. He had a playing career in which he spent parts of 12 seasons in the majors.

Mac Jones Reacts To Patriots’ Win Over Jets

It took three weeks, but the New England Patriots finally got into the win column with a hard-earned 15-10 victory over the struggling New York Jets.

The Patriots played to their strengths as they limited the Jets’ run game and forced Zach Wilson to beat them through the air.

On the flip side, Mac Jones did well to make smart decisions throwing the football as he recorded 201 passing yards and one touchdown.

Although those are modest numbers, Jones did just enough offensively to keep the chains moving and put New England in a position to hold on for the win.

After the game, Jones was asked how his team was able to get their first victory of the year and he had no problem being honest via CBS.

“Just hold onto the ball, and, you know, it’s kinda ugly, but it works,” Jones said.

While Bill Belichick might not agree with the verbiage, the sentiment is surely correct as Jones and the Patriots played clean football during the afternoon and made the Jets try to beat them.

It might not have been the most resounding win, but it’s much better than the alternative where they could have instead gone down 0-3 and seen their season effectively be over.

New England’s offense may not be the most exciting thing to watch, but they have a clear identity and Jones has shown legitimate improvement as a passer and decision-maker.

At 1-2, the Patriots could still fight their way into the Wild Card mix, though the sledding gets tougher in Week 4 when they head on the road to play the Dallas Cowboys.

The Kansas City Chiefs picked up their second consecutive win of the 2023 NFL season as they dominated the Chicago Bears on both sides of the field.

The Chiefs were never in danger of losing this game as they raced out to a double-digit lead in the first quarter and never looked back.

Patrick Mahomes was able to find soft spots in the Bears’ defense and carved them up whenever they got into the red zone.

His partner in crime Travis Kelce was a mismatch nightmare as Chicago had no one that could stick with him in coverage.

Kelce might have been playing with some extra juice as he had Taylor Swift in a box suite watching the game alongside his family.

The All-Pro managed to score a touchdown and Swift could be seen celebrating loudly via NFL.

By the looks of the video, Swift couldn’t help but let out her excitement after seeing Kelce go basically untouched on his end zone catch.

The rumor mill had been swirling prior to Week 3 that the two were seeing each other and her presence at the game all but confirms there is something going on between them.

Fans must have been excited to see the pop star at Arrowhead Stadium, but they’re probably even more fired up about picking up another win.

While the Kelce-Swift love story will be something for people to keep track of throughout the year, Kansas City will remain focused on defending its Super Bowl title the rest of the way.
