The rookie second round pick barely saw the field in year one, and the team is about to part with DeSean Jackson

All’s well that… Well, about that. Rookie second round wide receiver Tutu Atwell will be placed on season-ending injury reserve by the LA Rams this week. That’s according to head coach Sean McVay, who broke the unfortunate news to the media and Rams fans on Monday. If only there wasn’t a Von Miller trade to distract us from losing the team’s current part-time punt returner and speedy deep option.

Atwell, the 57th overall pick out of Louisville, was active in every game but only saw 10 snaps on offense. In Week 8’s win over the Houston Texans, Tutu was in on five special teams snaps, including the one that caused a shoulder injury that now requires surgery. There was some concern that Atwell’s frame — at 155 lbs, he is easily one of the lightest players in the NFL — could lead to injuries and Monday’s news will not quell those doubts.

The Rams added Miller, but are expected to also trade or release DeSean Jackson, meaning that at least one roster spot will be open now.

Sean McVay also noted that linebacker Travin Howard is going on injured reserve as well, but that was not listed as “season-ending”. Howard played in 10 defensive snaps against the Giants, but that was his only time on defense. He has been a mainstay on special teams, however.
