Rams DT Sebastian Joseph-Day out indefinitely with pectoral injury

The Rams star run-stuffing defensive tackle will miss a significant amount of time

Los Angeles Rams head coach Sean McVay took time with the media to discuss injuries before this Sunday’s matchup against the Tennessee Titans and revealed that defensive tackle Sebastian Joseph-Day re-aggravated his pec injury in yesterday’s practice and will need surgery.

The Rams are unsure if it’ll be season-ending but he will be out for a significant amount of time this year. That’s a significant blow to the LA Rams defense considering Joseph-Day quietly was having a breakout year. He is tied for first in run stop win rate for a defensive tackle with New York Jets defensive tackle Foley Fatukasi.

Defensive Coordinator Raheem Morris will look to players like DT Greg Gaines and A’Shawn Robinson to step up and fill the void. The acquisition of OLB Von Miller will help tremendously as well, as he prides himself on being an elite run stopper. This past week Joseph-Day missed the Houston Texans game due to the same injury, and the Rams only let Houston rush for 44 yards on the ground. This was one of Gaines best games of his career leading the way for DT’s in pass rush win rate in Week 8.

The best case scenario here is the depth of the defensive line to come in and have a seamless transition, while hopefully getting Sebastian back come playoff time. Unfortunately for Joseph-Day he is in a contract year, but I believe the Rams have seen enough of what he can do if they want to re-sign him.

On the other end of the spectrum, could this be the emergence of Greg Gaines? Can’t wait to see what he has in store for us.

Rams HC Names Potential Return Date For Cooper Kupp

The Los Angeles Rams had to head into the 2023 NFL season without arguably their best offensive weapon, with superstar wide receiver Cooper Kupp dealing with a hamstring injury that resulted in him being placed on injured reserve, meaning he’d miss at least the first four games of the season.

Unfortunately for Los Angeles, the Rams have lost two of the team’s first three games, with Sean McVay and company falling to the San Francisco 49ers and Cincinnati Bengals in consecutive weeks after starting the season with a win over the Seattle Seahawks.

In Week 4, the Rams will try to shoulder the load again without their superstar wideout downfield as Los Angeles will hit the road to face Anthony Richardson and the Indianapolis Colts.

After taking on the Colts this weekend on the road, Kupp appears to be on pace to return to the gridiron for Week 5 against the defending NFC champion Philadelphia Eagles, according to McVay via Dov Kleiman.

If Kupp is able to make it back in time for the showdown with the Eagles, it will be ideal timing as they’ll need him against arguably one of the best teams in the NFC.

In the meantime, the Rams have gotten a lot of production out of rookie wide receiver Puka Nacua, who has yet to reach the end zone in three games but has put up big numbers for a first-year player.

Nacua has caught 30 passes for 338 yards in the first three weeks of the season.
