QMJHL steps up punishment for players who instigate fights, frequent offenders

A player in the QMJHL who fights will be issued a game misconduct and suspended for a game for each subsequent fight, commissioner Mario Cecchini announced on Friday.

The announcement comes after the league’s member assembly “endorsed a ban on fighting,” in March.

Officially, the QMJHL approved the:

1. Addition of a game misconduct penalty for any player involved in a fight;
2. Addition of an automatic one-game suspension for any player declared the instigator of a fight;
3. Addition of a minimum two-game automatic suspension for any player identified as the aggressor;
4. In addition to the game misconduct, an automatic one-game suspension will be imposed once a player has reached his second fight, rather than his third.

“We are taking a tremendous stride towards player safety,” Cecchini said in a press conference Friday, ahead of the league’s draft.

The MLB postseason is set to begin on Tuesday afternoon with the Wild Card round.

The one matchup that a lot of people are interested in is the Toronto Blue Jays taking on the Minnesota Twins.

Despite the Twins hosting the series, the Blue Jays are a team many people are picking.

Most of that is due to the Twins’ inability to have success in the postseason.

The Twins have lost 18 consecutive postseason contests.

That is a losing streak dating back to 2004.

But the Twins are hoping that this is the year they can end the drought.

They received some good news involving a few of their players before the series begins on Tuesday.

According to Bob Nightengale, Carlos Correa and Royce Lewis will be on the postseason roster.

Both players missed the final two weeks of the regular season and their playoff status was uncertain.

Both will be welcome additions to a lineup that needs as much firepower as it can get.

Lewis and Correa are both middle-of-the-order bats that should play a significant role in their success.

Correa has a ton of postseason experience under his belt from his time in Houston, while Lewis has finally come into his own this year after many seasons battling injury.

There is no question both of these players need to be in the lineup for the Twins to have success.

Twins fans do not just want to see their team end the winless drought.

Winning the series is the most important thing to them.

They certainly have their work cut out for them facing a strong Blue Jays team.

Fans React To Major Angels Change

After another failed season in which they finished with a 73-89 record, there will be changes for the Los Angeles Angels ahead of the 2024 campaign.

The first one was a foregone conclusion at this point: the team announced that manager Phil Nevin won’t return to lead the team next year.

Nevin wasn’t technically fired: his contract is about to expire and the organization will just find someone else.

More changes could be coming if Shohei Ohtani ends up departing via free agency.

While there is a non-zero chance he returns, the expectation around the league is that he finds another team that gives him a more concrete chance of competing.

As for Nevin, the writing was on the wall after his squad finished with a disappointing 73-89 record.

Fans all over the country made their opinion known via Twitter.

Some of them recognized Nevin’s contributions as a skipper since 2022.

In reality, regardless of Nevin’s skills as a manager, the problems with the Angels start at the top.

However, it’s logical for the manager to lose his job after such a disappointing season.

Fans know that owner Arte Moreno is not exactly among the best in the league, and his inability to take his team to the playoffs since 2014 is proof of that.

Fans are already discussing potential candidates for the managerial position in LA, but unless the organization starts to show they aren’t a dysfunctional franchise with no direction, things likely won’t improve regardless of who is in charge of the dugout and clubhouse.
