Who’s Playing

Michigan @ Penn State

Current Records: Michigan 11-9; Penn State 9-10

What to Know

The Michigan Wolverines are 6-2 against the Penn State Nittany Lions since January of 2016, and they’ll have a chance to extend that success on Tuesday. The Wolverines and Penn State will face off in a Big Ten battle at 9 p.m. ET at Bryce Jordan Center. Both teams took a loss in their last game, so they’ll have plenty of motivation to get the ‘W.’

Michigan was within striking distance but couldn’t close the gap this past Saturday as they fell 82-76 to the Purdue Boilermakers. Despite the defeat, Michigan got a solid performance out of center Hunter Dickinson, who had 28 points.

Penn State lost a heartbreaker to the Wisconsin Badgers when they met last March, and they left with a heavy heart again this past Saturday. Penn State fell just short of Wisconsin by a score of 51-49. Guard Jalen Pickett had a pretty forgettable game, finishing with only four points on 2-for-13 shooting in his 37 minutes on the court.

Barring any buzzer beaters, the Wolverines are expected to win a tight contest. But bettors beware: they are only 5-10 against the spread when favored.

Michigan is now 11-9 while Penn State sits at 9-10. A couple numbers to keep in mind before tip-off: Michigan is seventh worst in college basketball in takeaways, with only 10.2 on average. Penn State has experienced some struggles of their own as they are stumbling into the game with the 358th fewest takeaways in college basketball, having accrued only 9.2 on average. It’s possible one of these Achilles’ heels will wind up tripping the losing team up.
