The No. 9 Ole Miss Rebels have fallen just short of posting a four-game winning streak twice already during the 2021 season, having the quest halted each time by a ranked opponent. Why Mississippi State can cover

Will Rogers is having a tremendous season for the Bulldogs, as he has shattered the school record and ranks second in the country with 4,113 passing yards. The sophomore quarterback’s 391-yard effort in Saturday’s 55-10 triumph over Tennessee State moved him past Dak Prescott (3,793 in 2015) for most passing yards in a season in Mississippi State history. It was the 10th 300-yard performance in 11 outings this year for Rogers as he nearly reached 400 for the fifth time.

The only time he failed to record 300 yards in 2021 was in the second of the campaign, a 24-10 victory over North Carolina State in which he finished with 294. Rogers leads the nation with a 76 percent completion rate and is sixth with 34 touchdown passes after throwing five against the Tigers. He has made at least four TD tosses in each of his last three games, amassing 15 in that span.

Why Ole Miss can cover

The Rebels have a Heisman Trophy contender in Matt Corral, who has registered 3,100 passing yards with 19 touchdowns and only three interceptions. The junior, who is expected to enter the 2022 NFL Draft, is one of just three quarterbacks in the nation with at least 15 TD passes and 10 rushing scores this season. Corral is Ole Miss’ third-leading rusher with 552 yards and ranks ninth in the FBS with an average of 332.5 yards of total offense.

Wideout Jahcour Pearson has reached triple digits in receiving yards twice in his last three games after gaining 101 on four receptions in the Rebels’ 31-17 triumph over Vanderbilt on Saturday. He produced a 135-yard performance against Auburn on Oct. 30. Fellow senior receiver Dontario Drummond leads Ole Miss with 53 receptions, 786 yards and eight touchdown catches after hauling in a scoring pass for the second straight contest in the victory.

Zack Greinke Gets A Key Clause In New Deal

Published

on

On January 30, it was reported that the Kansas City Royals had agreed to a one-year deal with veteran MLB starter Zack Greinke.

He signed his agreement four days later, and gives the Royals a solid innings eater with a relatively high floor and someone to mentor their young pitchers.

MLB insider Jon Heyman published some more details of his deal and one notable inclusion: a no-trade clause.

“Zack Greinke gets full no trade on Royals deal. Here’s the rest: $8.5M guarantee. Plus: $450,000 each for 90ip; 95ip; 100ip; 105ip; 110ip; 115ip; 120ip; 125ip; 130ip; 135ip. $300,000 each for 140ip; 145ip; 150ip; 155ip; 160ip; 165ip; 170ip; 175ip; 180ip; 185ip,” he tweeted.

Greinke’s base salary will be $8.5 million, which is not bad for a 39-year-old pitcher nearing his retirement.

However, he will have a chance to make an additional $7.5 million in incentives, all tied to the number of innings he pitches.

If he surpasses 185 frames, he will be making around $16 million.

The last time he pitched that many innings was in 2018.

He was at 137 last year and at 171 in 2021, so he still has a chance to score some nice bonuses provided he stays healthy.

Despite his advanced age and diminishing fastball velocity, Greinke’s ability to place the ball where he wants to gives him impeccable command and a foundation to succeed while limiting hard contact.

He had a solid 3.68 ERA and a 1.34 WHIP, although his 73 strikeouts weren’t particularly impressive.

Still, the Royals aren’t paying him to pitch like a 100-mph fireballer.

Greinke will try to remain a steady rotation stabilizer and help some of the Royals’ young arms such as Brady Singer, Daniel Lynch, Jackson Kowar, Kris Bubic and Carlos Hernandez find some consistency.

Reds Fan Calls Out A Frustrating Spring Training Fact

Published

on

MLB spring training games will start on February 24.

Pitchers and catchers, however, will report to camp in a matter of days.

At long last, we can say with confidence that baseball is almost back!

That’s actually exciting news for most team’s fanbases.

However, Cincinnati Reds fans have to see how their owners throw away yet another year.

Their roster is mediocre, they have traded most of their talent in the last two years, and there is virtually no hope of contending this year for Reds fans.

As a result, the on-field product is not really that interesting for TV companies.

On Monday, Bally Sports Ohio announced that it will carry seven 2023 Reds spring training games.

A Reds fan compared that to the number of games available for other team’s fans and couldn’t help to voice his frustration.

“Some teams have 30 spring training games available to their fans. The Reds consistently have 6-8 broadcasts during the spring. Incredibly frustrating that you can stream high school junior varsity games but MLB games in spring training? Good luck,” Doug Gray tweeted.

We have said this several times, but here we go again: MLB can’t even think of competing with other professional leagues and sports for ratings and popularity as long as it doesn’t make sure that their product is mostly (and easily) available to fans.

Nobody knows exactly why the Reds don’t have more games available to their fans, but all parties need to find common ground to make sure supporters have a long list of games to watch.

The Reds might not be that good in 2023, but they do have a loyal fanbase that wants to watch how young players and prospects fare in spring training play.

Fans deserve to watch as many games as they want.

Davante Adams Comments On His Wild Offseason Ahead

Published

on

Davante Adams has been through a lot in the last 12 months.

He said goodbye to the Green Bay Packers, which was the team that drafted him.

Adams then joined the Las Vegas Raiders to reunite with his college roommate Derek Carr, who is leaving the team after just one season together.

At the Pro Bowl, Adams was asked about the situation and provided context to many rumors that have been floating around.

Adams has publicly shown his support for Aaron Rodgers to join the Raiders, now that Carr will be leaving the team.

Rodgers has been scrutinized in the public eye as of late, given the fact that he is likely to leave the Packers.

Many have pointed to a Rodgers-Adams reunion as a solution to the Raiders’ recent woes.

The Raiders have not won a playoff game since 2002, long before Carr joined the team.

Despite adding Adams, and having many stars on the defensive side of the ball, the Raiders haven’t found a groove in the past several seasons.

A player of Rodgers’ caliber would dramatically increase their chances of winning a playoff game.

The Raiders, however, still have to deal with Carr’s contract.

Carr is tied to the team until 2024.

Unless something major changes in the next few months, it looks like the Raiders will be on the hook for most of, if not all of Carr’s contract, even if he is playing on a different team.

The Rodgers, Adams, and Carr saga will be something to monitor in the next several weeks.

We’ll provide updates as we get them.
