Nick Sirianni on if Jalen Hurts is Eagles’ franchise quarterback: ‘Watch the last three games’

Published

on

Jalen Hurts is starting to get the Philadelphia Eagles to believe he’s the franchise quarterback of this team going forward. Head coach Nick Sirianni may already be there.

Hurts has his doubters on whether he’s the franchise quarterback, yet he continues to improve his play each week — and the Eagles’ offense is improving as a result. Philadelphia is averaging 208.7 rushing yards on the ground the last three games, limiting the pass attempts of Hurts — who has become a more efficient passer in the process.

Franchise quarterback? The stats — and Hurts’ play — dictate that.

“Watch the last three games and that’s the biggest one right there, right,” Sirianni said Monday. “He’s still in his rookie season and – essentially, if you count the amount of games started. And so, all I see is improvement every day from him because, again, it starts with the type of person that Jalen [Hurts] is and how much he loves this sport and how much he loves his teammates and how tough he is. And he doesn’t make the same mistake twice.

“I just see his arrow completely pointed up. I think we’ve all seen the way he’s played. The way he played yesterday, again, when we got into the second half, we kind of took the air out of it a little bit and we played a little bit different the way our defense was playing and the lead that we had.”

Hurts has completed 66.7% of his passes for 443 yards with three touchdowns to one interception (102.6 rating) over his last three starts, while also rushing 31 times for 186 yards. In his first eight games, Hurts has completed 61.3% of his passes with an 89.3 passer rating, averaging 7.1 yards per attempt. The last two games? Hurts has completed 67.5% of his passes with a 108.3 rating, averaging 8.5 yards per attempt.

Hurts has even eliminated the bad throws from his rookie season. The on-target throws (would have hit intended receiver) from Hurts improved from 60.7% to 70.1% while the bad throws (poor throws per attempt) dropped from 26.7% to 13.3%.

The improvements from Hurts are noticeable.

“I just see him making strides over and over and over again. I just see him making strides in all aspects of his game,” Sirianni said. “My job here and Jalen’s job is to not focus on franchise quarterback moving forward … I think that’s Jalen’s mindset, that’s my mindset, is how we’re going to keep getting better each week and the rest will take care of itself.”

Dodgers Manager Withholds A Bold Claim In 2023

The spring is usually the time for hope and lofty goals in the MLB universe.

It’s also the time for the “I’m in the best shape of my life” quotes by players, and the “we built a squad to compete” by general managers.

With that in mind, Los Angeles Dodgers manager Dave Roberts may have gone a bit too far last year.

In late March, around the end of spring training, he said that he “guaranteed” the Dodgers winning the World Series.

In reality, every sign pointed at LA being extremely competitive until the end.

Time proved that his squad was historically good, with 111 wins and just 51 losses.

However, they lost in the first round of the playoffs, against the San Diego Padres no less.

Dodgers (and other teams’) fans blasted him for his spring training remarks.

They couldn’t believe he promised a World Series win and couldn’t even get past the Division Series.

That’s why this time, Roberts decided to be a bit more cautious with what comes out of his mouth.

“Dave Roberts, speaking to the media at Dodgers Fanfest, said he will not guarantee the Dodgers winning the World Series this season,” Jorge Castillo of the LA Times tweeted.

Talk about learning from your own mistakes.

He received so much backlash that he is trying a more conservative approach.

He knows that his Dodgers are still elite, but he prefers the team to show it on the field this time.

They might not have such a dominant regular season because the Padres improved a lot.

However, all fans want is to see them win the last game of the season.

Corey Kluber Fully Embraces His New Team

Corey Kluber, one of the Boston Red Sox‘s signings for the upcoming season, has a long-standing reputation of being a baseball gentleman, a professional in all the sense of the word.

Not everybody can play for the Cleveland Guardians, the New York Yankees, the Tampa Bay Rays, and the Red Sox and still enjoy the love and respect of fans of all those franchises.

Those are all American League contenders and have been for the better part of the last decade.

Yet everybody respects Kluber because of the way he approaches the game, like a pro: you won’t find him badmouthing a team or a fanbase.

The 36-year-old veteran is, however, enjoying his still brief time as a member of the Red Sox.

He has updated his Twitter account to include the team on his profile.

His profile picture shows him with a Red Sox hat and the letters “K-L-U-B-E-R”, but with the same art and graphic identity as the franchise that now employs him.

It actually looks very, very cool.

Kluber finally pitched something close to a full workload last season with the Rays.

He logged 164 innings and posted a 4.34 ERA that may not look so sexy, but when you compare it to his 3.57 Fielding Independent Pitching, or FIP, you know he was much better than his ERA.

A former two-time Cy Young award winner with plenty of postseason experience, Kluber is still looking for that first World Series ring.

The Red Sox are not really favored to win it all this year, but stranger things have happened in baseball.

The Timberwolves Are Now Back On Track

The Minnesota Timberwolves had a dominant performance over the top-seeded Denver Nuggets on Sunday, beating that team 128-98.

It was an impressive showing for multiple reasons.

But it was made even more impressive when you look at Minnesota’s recent track record.

The Timberwolves have won seven of their last ten games and have beaten each of the top three teams in the West during that time.

To make that record even better, they had the best defensive rating in the league during the span of time.

The Timberwolves are starting to finally look like the team fans were expecting in the summer.

As you recall, they rocked the entire NBA world in the offseason when they acquired Rudy Gobert from the Utah Jazz.

There was talk of the Timberwolves being the best team in the West since Gobert was joining players like D’Angelo Russell, Anthony Edwards, and others.

But the team has been shaky throughout the season, suffering multiple losses that seemed avoidable.

Perhaps they just needed time to get their act together and figure out how to play in sync.

On Sunday night, there were six players who scored in double digits, including Gobert, Russell, and Edwards.

Before that big victory, the Timberwolves also defeated the Golden State Warriors, Sacramento Kings, Memphis Grizzlies, and others.

That certainly looks like a team that has its sights set on the top of the Western Conference.

Sure enough, Minnesota has now climbed to 7th place in their conference, which is much better than where they were just a few weeks ago.

Coming up for the Timberwolves are tough competitions against the Nuggets, Utah Jazz, Grizzlies, and Dallas Mavericks.

How many more big wins can they achieve?
