NFL World Reacts To Derek Carr Extension Rumors

The Las Vegas Raiders have all the intention to sign quarterback Derek Carr to an extension.

The team had an option to place the franchise tag on him, giving the former Fresno State close to $30 million in guaranteed money in 2023.

However, Raiders general manager Dave Ziegler and new head coach Josh McDaniels reportedly agree that keeping Carr is the best path to blaze.

After all, he helped the team reach the playoffs despite dealing with controversies regarding former head coach Jon Gruden, Henry Ruggs III, and Damon Arnette.

Carr also put up solid numbers throughout the regular season, finishing fourth in passing yards (4,804) and 13th in touchdowns with 23.

But while the team’s top brass agree that Carr will be their signal-caller for the foreseeable future, football pundits are speculating the terms of his new deal.

The second tweet establishes a $35 million annual salary for Carr, which is fair considering that Patrick Mahomes is set to earn up to $500 million in ten years while Josh Allen inked a six-year, $258 million deal.

Carr might not be in the same tier as those two, but McDaniels’ new offense that focuses on play-action and two tight end sets will help unlock the 30-year-old quarterback’s capabilities.

How Long Will The Extension Be?

Both parties agree that a short-term extension is ideal given Carr’s age and the Raiders’ willingness to go with another quarterback should the McDaniels experiment go nowhere.

Therefore, it’s logical that the Raiders will have Carr for at least three more seasons after a two-year extension.

This tweet showed how the team can structure Carr’s deal to soften the salary cap blow.

However, there are also some who don’t agree with the $40 million price tag on Carr.

Regardless on the deal’s final terms, the Raiders need a solid quarterback if they are to survive the AFC West alone.

Going up against Mahomes and Justin Herbert at least two times a year will be a mismatch if they don’t have anyone at quarterback.

Marcus Smart Has A Message Ahead Of Game 7

Boston is one of the ultimate sports towns on Earth, and the Boston Celtics have had plenty to do with that.

For decades, they were the undisputed greatest franchise in the league, and not even ceding that much ground to the Los Angeles Lakers has been enough to change that status.

That’s why Celtics guard Marcus Smart knows what’s at stake when they take the floor for Game 7 tonight.

In a recent interview, the former Defensive Player of the Year acknowledged that making history would be huge for this group.

The Celtics could join the 2004 Boston Red Sox as the only two teams in major sports history to come back from a 0-3 series deficit.

NBA teams are 0-149 in that scenario and just three teams before them were able to even force Game 7, although all of them had to play it on the road.

The Celtics have taken a ‘one game at a time’ mindset ahead of tonight’s matchup, warning the Miami Heat not to let them win one game.

Joe Mazzulla has been more confident and sound in this three-game rampage, but the players’ body language, mindset, and energy, have been the biggest difference from the first three matchups.

Now, all eyes will be set on the TD Garden to see whether this team has what it takes to write its name in history books.

Anything can happen tonight, and that’s the beauty of sports.
