Monmouth vs. Iona: How to watch, schedule, live stream info, game time, TV channel

Published

Who’s Playing

Iona @ Monmouth

Current Records: Iona 11-2; Monmouth 10-3

What to Know

The Monmouth Hawks lost both of their matches to the Iona Gaels last season on scores of 86-91 and 65-88, so they’re hoping to turn the tables this season. The Hawks will play host again and welcome Iona to OceanFirst Bank Center, where tip-off is scheduled for 2 p.m. ET on Sunday. Iona should still be feeling good after a victory, while Monmouth will be looking to right the ship.

It looks like Monmouth must have gotten on Santa’s naughty list since the team didn’t end up with the win they were expected to receive two weeks ago. They were within striking distance but couldn’t close the gap as they fell 77-71 to the Hofstra Pride. That makes it the first time this season Monmouth has let down their home crowd.

Meanwhile, it was a close one, but on Sunday the Gaels sidestepped the Marist Red Foxes for a 69-66 win. The overall outcome was to be expected, but the Red Foxes made it more of a contest than the oddsmakers had predicted.

Monmouth’s loss took them down to 10-3 while Iona’s victory pulled them up to 11-2. A win for the Hawks would reverse both their bad luck and Iona’s good luck. We’ll see if Monmouth manages to pull off that tough task or if Iona keeps their momentum going instead.

The Mets Are Rolling Out Their Aces For An Important Series

The New York Mets and the Philadelphia Phillies will play a crucial series from Friday to Sunday.

It’s an important one for the Mets, leaders of the NL East division with a seven-game cushion over the Atlanta Braves and with a 10.5-game difference with the Phils.

For Philadelphia, however, it’s a pivotal matchup: sweeping the mighty Mets will mean that they can start dreaming about taking the division with a furious late-season run.

They need the victories for the Wild Card race, anyway, so yes: it’s a big series for Philadelphia.

It will be tough to win a game against the Mets, let alone get the sweep, because New York is about to throw their best three starting pitchers to the mound for the weekend series.

“Mets-Phillies probables: Tonight: LHP Ranger Suárez (8-5, 3.68) vs. RHP Max Scherzer (8-2, 1.98). Tomorrow: RHP Aaron Nola (8-8, 3.17) vs. RHP Jacob deGrom (1-0, 2.53). Sunday: RHP Zack Wheeler (11-5, 2.63) vs. RHP Chris Bassitt (9-7, 3.39),” Mets insider Anthony DiComo tweeted.

Three Fascinating Matchups

The Scherzer – Suarez matchup seems a bit inclined to the Mets side, but don’t sleep on Suarez: he was stellar in 2021 and has been solid in 2022, too.

Nola – deGrom is actually the main dish of the weekend.

People are eager to watch deGrom pitch, as he seems close to his peak form after missing several months with a stress reaction on his right scapula.

Nola, of course, is one of the best and most underrated pitchers of the National League and usually brings his A-game when the Phillies need him.

On Sunday, the Mets will have the very solid Bassitt, acquired before the season via trade.

Philadelphia will counter with star right-hander Zack Wheeler, in what looks to be the only pitching matchup that favors the Phillies (albeit slightly).

It should be a fascinating series.

Lakers Fans Continue To Toss Out Kyrie Irving Trade Ideas

Fans of the Los Angeles Lakers are currently waiting anxiously to hear if the team is able to somehow secure Kyrie Irving from the Brooklyn Nets after weeks of speculation and rumor.

This is nothing close to a done deal and it could end up not happening at all.

But if it does, it’ll radically change the Lakers and greatly increase their chances of returning to the postseason.

However, it’ll require a whole lot of work and not just from the Lakers.

The latest proposed trade package making the rounds online features Irving, Patrick Beverley, and Rudy Gay going to the Lakers.

Meanwhile, the Nets receive Bojan Bogdanovic, Malik Beasley, and a 2023 second-round pick in this possible trade.

Finally, the Utah Jazz get 2027 and 2029 first-round picks, Max Christie, Talen Horton-Tucker, and Russell Westbrook.

That’s a lot of moving pieces but will it actually happen?

Needy Nets

The thing that sticks out the most in that proposed deal is that the Nets don’t get an awful lot for Irving.

Bogdanovic and Beasley are fine players, and the second-round pick would help them out a lot.

But the team has made no secret of the fact that they want a lot in exchange for both Irving and Durant.

It just seems unlike they’d part with him for what’s on the table here.

Their high asking price is just one of the reasons why so many people are thinking an Irving deal won’t get done before the new season starts.

Brooklyn might just sit on their hands because they are in no rush to trade the player away for anything less than a package they consider stellar.
