It’s no secret that the St. Louis Cardinals have been one of the major disappointments this season.

Despite a quiet offseason, they were expected to be the heavy favorites to win the NL Central.

However, they find themselves in last place and have not gotten off to such a bad start since all the way back in 1995.

FOX Sports analyst Ben Verlander talked about the Cardinals’ poor start, everything that has gone wrong for the organization over the past several years, and how it has led them to become the worst team in the National League.

Verlander’s segment can be seen in the tweet below.

Verlander criticized the team for having “no fight.”

He then pointed out the fact that they haven’t been this bad since 1995, and took note of several things that took place that year, including the fact that Pedro Martinez was still with the Montreal Expos.

Verlander proceeded to talk about some major flaws within the organization, dating back to the firing of Mike Shildt, who had worked his way up from being a scout to earning the managerial role after Mike Matheny was dismissed.

The Cardinals fired him over a “philosophical difference” before handing the reins to Oli Marmol.

Marmol has been in the news for the wrong reasons this year, and it started when he publicly criticized Tyler O’Neill over a supposed lack of hustle.

Verlander questioned Marmol’s job security and also called him out for seemingly being over-reliant on analytics.

St. Louis is now 25-37 on the season.
