Who’s Playing

Alabama State @ Mississippi Valley State

Current Records: Alabama State 2-11; Mississippi Valley State 0-10

What to Know

This Monday, the Mississippi Valley State Delta Devils are hoping to patch up the holes in a defense that has allowed an average of 90.6 points per matchup. The Delta Devils and the Alabama State Hornets will face off in an SWAC battle at 5 p.m. ET on Monday at Harrison Complex. The teams split their matchups last year, with Alabama State winning the first 64-51 on the road and Mississippi Valley State taking the second 68-65.

Mississippi Valley State was pulverized by the UAB Blazers 100-58 last week.

Meanwhile, the oddsmakers predicted a rough game for Alabama State on Tuesday, and boy were they were right. They got maybe a little too into the holiday spirit, gifting the Texas Tech Red Raiders an easy 75-53 victory. Forward Gerald Liddell (15 points) and forward Trace Young (14 points) were the top scorers for Alabama State.

With both teams hitting sour notes in their previous games, they will no doubt be looking to produce a better outcome in this one. Neither squad could put together much of an offensive attack, so expect every point to count.

Lakers Fans Continue To Toss Out Kyrie Irving Trade Ideas

Published

Fans of the Los Angeles Lakers are currently waiting anxiously to hear if the team is able to somehow secure Kyrie Irving from the Brooklyn Nets after weeks of speculation and rumor.

This is nothing close to a done deal and it could end up not happening at all.

But if it does, it’ll radically change the Lakers and greatly increase their chances of returning to the postseason.

However, it’ll require a whole lot of work and not just from the Lakers.

The latest proposed trade package making the rounds online features Irving, Patrick Beverley, and Rudy Gay going to the Lakers.

Meanwhile, the Nets receive Bojan Bogdanovic, Malik Beasley, and a 2023 second-round pick in this possible trade.

Finally, the Utah Jazz get 2027 and 2029 first-round picks, Max Christie, Talen Horton-Tucker, and Russell Westbrook.

That’s a lot of moving pieces but will it actually happen?

Needy Nets

The thing that sticks out the most in that proposed deal is that the Nets don’t get an awful lot for Irving.

Bogdanovic and Beasley are fine players, and the second-round pick would help them out a lot.

But the team has made no secret of the fact that they want a lot in exchange for both Irving and Durant.

It just seems unlike they’d part with him for what’s on the table here.

Their high asking price is just one of the reasons why so many people are thinking an Irving deal won’t get done before the new season starts.

Brooklyn might just sit on their hands because they are in no rush to trade the player away for anything less than a package they consider stellar.

Deion Sanders takes scathing shot at the Pro Football Hall of Fame: It’s not the ‘Hall of Fame’ anymore

Published

on

Deion Sanders has been in the Pro Football Hall of Fame for more than a decade now, but apparently, he doesn’t think being in the Hall of Fame isn’t quite the honor it used to be.

During a lengthy rant about the Hall of Fame, Sanders insinuated that it’s now too easy for players to get in and that the Hall needs to think about separating the best Hall of Famers from other Hall of Famers by giving out a different color jacket (Each Hall of Famer gets a gold jacket the night before they’re inducted).

“The Hall of Fame ain’t the Hall of Fame no more,” Sanders said. “I love it, I respect it, I admire it. I think all the guys who are inducted are definitely deserving, but it needs to be a different color jacket. My jacket’s gotta be a different color.”

If it were up to Sanders, he would totally revamp the process for getting into the Hall of Fame. The former 49ers and Cowboys star said he would create a top tier of Hall of Famers that would only feature 22 players (11 starters on offense and 11 on defense).

“There needs to be a starting 11, there needs to be an upper room,” Sanders said. “My [bust] don’t belong with some of these other [busts] that’s in the Hall of Fame. I’m sorry, I’m just being honest. I’m just saying what you all are thinking and a lot of you all Hall of Famers are thinking the same thing. This thing is becoming a free-for-all now, man.”

Sanders also believes that the Hall of Fame should only be letting in players who “changed the game.”

“That’s what the Hall of Fame is, a game-changer,” Sanders said. “Not ‘I played good, I had a good little run. I gave you three or four good years.’”

Sanders is arguably the best corner in NFL history. Not only was he named a first-team All-Pro a total of six times, but he also played on two Super Bowl-winning teams.

Sanders ended his rant by asking a simple question.

“Who votes? Who votes on this stuff?”

To answer Sanders’ question, the Hall of Fame selection process is handled by a 49-person committee that is allowed to select between four and eight new inductees per year. Apparently, that number is too high for Sanders, who only wants to see the best of the best enshrined in Canton.

With the Hall of Fame getting called out by one of the best defensive players in NFL history, it will be interesting to see if it responds to Sanders’ complaints.

Mariners Make Their Stance On Jarred Kelenic Very Clear

Hitting in MLB is extremely hard, and not every prospect can produce right out of the gate.

Some of them start hitting since day one, or are productive in their first season; while others can’t fully adapt and adjust to big league pitching.

The Seattle Mariners have a couple of fresh examples for both situations.

Jarred Kelenic, who was brought up last year and has failed to establish himself as an MLB-caliber hitter, has been a disappointment; whereas Julio Rodriguez, the favorite for the Rookie of the Year award in the American League, has been hitting ever since he put on a Mariners uniform.

Both players were involved in the Mariners’ latest transactions.

“Mariners announce roster moves: • Julio Rodriguez activated from 10-day IL • Curt Casali activated from 10-day IL • Jarred Kelenic optioned to Triple-A Tacoma • Luis Torrens designated for assignment,” Mariners reporter Daniel Kremer wrote via Twitter.

Kelenic was recently called up from Triple-A, where he was having a decent season with a .293/.360/.555 line.

Kelenic Keeps Failing In MLB

However, he once again failed to make an impact with the big league club.

He is 2-for-18 in his last seven games, with a.111/.111/.278 line.

Kelenic is in a weird spot because he is too good for Triple-A but has received many chances in the majors and hasn’t produced.

Some people call that a “AAAA player”.

In any case, he just turned 23 years old and still has time on his side.

The Mariners, however, are in the middle of a playoff run so they can’t afford to have him struggling in the bigs at the moment.

He will have to earn his way back eventually, perhaps in September, but it’s clear he has some issues to work on.
