Just because Max Scherzer is out for an extended period of time with an oblique injury doesn’t mean he can’t still make an impact.

It may not be on the field, but it’s actually something bigger that will make everybody’s heart happy.

The New York Mets‘ ace is making his presence felt in the greater New York City community as he is using his name for a charitable cause.

Mets insider Pat Ragazzo tweeted that Scherzer and his wife Erica are going to be sponsoring adoption fees for all dogs over 30 pounds who were adopted from St. Hubert’s Animal Welfare Center in New Jersey through June 12.

A “Doggone” Great Cause

We all love a good story about sports and animals.

But this is a great cause that Scherzer and his wife are devoting their time to.

It’s always good to see athletes devote their time to great causes such as this one.

The fact that it’s for helping out dogs makes it even better.

Ragazzo’s tweet even featured a heartwarming picture of Max and Erica sitting together on a bench with three dogs surrounding them.

Dogs love baseball too.

But it also shows that Scherzer has a big heart and cares about helping animals find homes.

We always think of Scherzer as somebody who is very intense, as that is the persona he brings with him when he’s pitching, but at the end of the day, he’s a man with a big heart who not only loves the game of baseball, its fans and his teammates, but cares about other causes as well, such as this one.

Again, we love a good story about sports and animals.
