Lakers’ Carmelo Anthony says Knicks president Leon Rose deserves more credit for turning franchise around

Carmelo Anthony makes his return to Madison Square Garden for the first — and only — time this season when the Los Angeles Lakers take on the New York Knicks Tuesday night. But unlike previous years when he’s returned to play at MSG against a struggling Knicks squad, he’ll be lining up opposite of a team coming off a playoff appearance and trying to replicate that success this season.

Despite their 9-8 start to the season, which has them sitting at ninth in the Eastern Conference, the Knicks are still considered playoff contenders, and Anthony says New York’s team president Leon Rose deserves more credit for that.

“It’s very hard to come in and do what they’re doing, what they started, what they created as far as starting from the ground up,” said Anthony, via SNY. “When I say that, it’s getting everything out, clearing everything out, bringing in the right people. But not doing it in a frantic way, not doing it in [by] taking advantage of power. It’s just coming in, talking to people, getting to know people, understanding people, understanding what was happening before and being able to clean that up and build on that. I think people need to talk about that a lot more. That’s a very difficult task coming in for somebody who was an agent prior to being a president of the New York Knicks. That’s a big task so I’ll tip my hat off to those guys for what they’ve accomplished, what they’ve established so far.”

The Knicks hired Rose in March 2020. In the 20 months since being named team president, they went from a 21-win team when he took the role to immediately finding success the following year and finishing with a 41-31 record. He brought in Tom Thibodeau to be the next head coach, who then turned around and won Coach of the Year in his first year. He coached the Knicks to their first playoff appearance since Anthony was in blue and orange back in 2013.

This past offseason Rose was aggressive in improving upon that success from last season by signing Kemba Walker to an incredibly cheap deal after he was traded and then bought out. He also brought back Derrick Rose, who was New York’s most productive bench player, and signed Julius Randle to a team-friendly extension before he was eligible for a huge payday this upcoming summer. While the Knicks have been inconsistent to start the season, these past two years have been far better than the last seven seasons combined. That’s because of the decisions Rose is making in the front office when it comes to roster construction and coaching hires.

So when Anthony, who used to be represented by Rose as an agent, says Rose deserves more credit for what he’s done with this franchise, he’s not wrong. The next step will be showing that last season wasn’t a fluke and that the Knicks can continue to be relevant and competitive in the league. If the last 20 months have been any indication, then that shouldn’t be a problem for Rose and the Knicks.

The Philadelphia Phillies want to establish themselves as perennial playoff contenders.

Last season, they made the playoffs as the final Wild Card team and went all the way to the World Series.

This season, they are returning to a familiar spot.

On Tuesday night, the Phillies clinched a playoff berth with their walk-off win over the Pittsburgh Pirates.

This is the first time the Phillies have made back-to-back postseasons since 2010 and 2011.

In 2022, most fans saw the Phillies celebrate each round with the song “Dancing on My Own.”

According to John Clark, the Phillies appear to be bringing back the same song for this postseason run.

The Phillies are in a much better spot this year than last.

With a Cubs loss, they clinched the first Wild Card spot last night as well.

That will give them home-field advantage for the first round.

Playing in front of the fans at Citizens Bank Park was one of the main reasons for the Phillies’ postseason success last year.

They dominated at home and rode that wave to the Fall Classic.

It will be interesting to see if the Phillies have another run in them this year.

Every team knows what the Phillies are capable of and they will not be taken lightly.

Their postseason success will come down to how well they can pitch.

Both the starters and bullpen need to be on top of their game as they get set to face some of the best lineups in baseball.

Many people are hoping to see a rematch of last year’s NLDS with the Phillies and Atlanta Braves.

If the Phillies can advance out of the Wild Card round, that is who they will most likely face.

Analyst Makes Clear Statement On Chiefs’ Status In The AFC

The Miami Dolphins currently sit atop the AFC East with an immaculate 3-0 record.

They also boast the most explosive and entertaining offense in today’s game, as shown by putting up a historic 70 points against the Denver Broncos.

However, sports analyst Craig Carton believes the Kansas City Chiefs are still the team to beat in the AFC, regardless of their record.

In the latest edition of his show, the renowned pundit explained that the Chiefs got that glimmer back in their win vs. the Chicago Bears, and he believes the Dolphins are in for a bad time vs. the Buffalo Bills.

Whatever the case, the Chiefs are still the reigning Super Bowl champions, and that’s always hard to bet against.

Moreover, the way Patrick Mahomes has played has made people think he’s in for another MVP campaign, and Travis Kelce and Chris Jones have shown no signs of rust or injury whatsoever.

Granted that the Chiefs didn’t seem ready to play in the season opener, and one could argue that they don’t have as much talent at their skill positions as they used to, but they still have Andy Reid.

The Chiefs are the kind of team you can never count out of any game, regardless of the rival or the deficit.

They continue to have that aura of champions, and sometimes, that’s all it takes to repeat.

It won’t be easy, and everybody will give them their best shot, but if someone can do it, that’s them.
