Kirill Kaprizov has goal, three assists as Wild rout Jets
ST. PAUL, Minn. — Kirill Kaprizov scored and tied a career-high with three assists to help the Minnesota Wild rout the Winnipeg Jets 7-1 on Friday.
Mats Zuccarello scored twice before leaving with an apparent injury, Alex Goligoski, Ryan Hartman, Jon Merrill and Matt Dumba also scored in the start of a five-game homestand. Minnesota is 6-2-0 on home ice, scoring at least four goals in each win.
Cam Talbot made 30 saves.
Zuccarello went to the locker room late in the second period after an uncalled slash to the left wrist by Nathan Beaulieu. Zuccarello did not return.
The frustrated Jets have lost four straight, are winless in the past five and the franchise-best streak of 14 games of not giving up more than three goals is over.
Pierre-Luc Dubois scored for Winnipeg. It has scored just five goals on 184 shots over its past five starts, and was blanked 3-0 in Columbus on Wednesday night.
Connor Hellebuyck, who had allowed no more than two goals in each of his previous nine starts, finished with 10 saves before getting pulled early in the second period.
They weren’t all his fault as he was the victim of a couple bad bounces and some horrendous defensive zone play.
Goligoski’s wrist shot from the blue line deflected off Nikolaj Ehlers and found its way through traffic 52 seconds in for a 1-0 lead. A long shot from Zuccarello ricocheted off the post, off Hellebuyck’s upper arm and trickled across the line at 7:47. It was Minnesota’s third shot.

The Zuccarello-Hartman-Kaprizov line connected for two goals 45 seconds apart early in the second period for a 4-0 lead that ended Hellebuyck’s outing. He was replaced by Eric Comrie.
First, Hellebuyck stopped a shot by Kaprizov, but Hartman was left alone beside the blue paint for a rebound. Then a shot from the point by Jonas Brodin went to Kaprizov whose cross-crease pass went to a wide-open Zuccarello for a simple redirect.
Winnipeg’s frustration began to show in the second period.
Beaulieu took a run at Goligoski along the end boards, and Evgeny Svechnikov was assessed a double-minor for slashing and roughing a couple minutes later, leading to multiple scrums. Logan Stanley and Minnesota’s Joel Eriksson Ek each went off for roughing 34 seconds later.
NOTES: Comrie finished with 21 saves. ? Dubois’ goal came on the power play, just the second in 25 Jets’ chances over 10 games since Nov. 6. ? Winnipeg C Paul Stastny returned after missing eight games with a foot injury. ? To commemorate Native American Heritage Day, the Wild wore custom sweaters during the pregame warmup. They pay tribute to the Minnesota Native American community with a specially designed Dakota emblem and writing.

To say the least, this has been a chaotic season for the Brooklyn Nets.
It started last summer with Kevin Durant asking to be traded and rumors that Kyrie Irving also wanted to leave, and it continued in the fall when Irving promoted a film with antisemitic material on social media and with the firing of head coach Steve Nash.
Then both Durant and Irving were traded, triggering the start of a long-term rebuilding process.
Then there is the matter of Ben Simmons, the talented but enigmatic player who has played in just 42 games for the Nets since they traded for him last season.
He has been out for over a month with a back issue, and it was announced on Saturday that he will likely miss the rest of this season.

When Simmons came into the NBA as the first pick in the 2016 draft, many felt he had superstar potential.
However, he never really improved his game, other than becoming one of the league’s better defenders.
He has never developed any ability or willingness to take, let alone make shots outside of the paint, and through it all, he has developed a reputation for being mentally weak.
After his Philadelphia 76ers fell apart in the 2021 Eastern Conference semifinals and lost in seven games, head coach Doc Rivers said he wasn’t sure if Simmons could be the point guard on a championship team.
The point guard reacted by demanding a trade and cut off almost all communication with the 76ers organization.
Until Simmons plays a full season for the Nets and performs well, many will continue to doubt his mental toughness and dedication to basketball.

Parker Meadows hit a three-run homer in the top of the third inning and the Detroit Tigers coasted to a 4-1 victory over the Toronto Blue Jays in a spring training game on Saturday at TD Ballpark.
The Tigers (13-16) scored all four of their runs in the third, thanks to a Blue Jays’ throwing error and inexperienced pitching.
Ryan Kreidler of the Tigers reached first in the third inning on a throwing error by Jays’ third baseman Max Chapman. Zack Short was then hit by a Sem Robberse pitch.
Jake Rogers then doubled, scoring Kreidler and moving Short to third. And then with two runners on base Meadows hit a home run to make it 4-0.
The 21-year-old Robberse, from Zeist, Netherlands, finished up with one walk and one strikeout, allowing three hits and four runs in three innings of work.
The Jays (16-12) scored their lone run in the bottom of the eighth as Otto Lopez drew a bases-loaded walk with two out.
The Tigers outhit the Jays 8-3.
The Blue Jays will play the New York Yankees on Sunday.
