Jordan Fuller Interview LA Rams

Buy some more steps up. On the right side it is intercepted. Jordan thought a lot of the left sideline may feel cutting inside now back out Fuller’s in ravens territory and he’s knocked out inside the 30

Oh welcome to rams revealed I’m your host JD long and this is the first episode of a new year of course and just in time for the regular season finale at SoFi stadium and this one has all the stakes a win for the Rams would secure the NFC West title and the number two seed in the NFC. It could also eliminate the San Francisco 40 Niners from the playoffs if the saints were to beat the Falcons as you know the rams have won five in a row most recently a thrilling comeback in Baltimore and one that really started with our guests second year safety team captain Jordan fuller Jordan, welcome back to Ramsey revealed how are you? I appreciate it. I’m doing well. Yeah. Thanks for having me on. It’s great to see you. Let’s start with that intersection. So it comes at a juncture right where you’re in the second quarter inside the two minute warning. You’re down 10 Nothing at that point. So already trailing two scores Baltimore threatening to go up even bigger. What did that moment feel like for you individually and for your defence collectively? I feel great.

Jordan Fuller The Best Season Of His Life?

I was just happy I was able to give the team a spark.
1:30
A much needed spark. At that moment. I was glad we were able to punch in a touchdown soon after that. That’s what I was most happy about. But I was also happy I got my first pick of the year I’ve been waiting patiently for them. So, so far really good. No question. How would you rate your return?
1:47
Return was solid.
1:49
You know, always want to score so. Hopefully next time I can do that.
1:55
So fast forward in that game. We can’t recap all of it. I definitely want to turn our attention forward, not back but that Goldline. Stan holding the ravens to three in the fourth quarter was enormous. You give the offence a chance to go take the lead for the first time in that game. What was that like on the sideline to watch them go down the field? I was awesome. I mean, I had all the faith in them in the world after they get the job done. But I’m now 45 foot and six play we had it was it was special for him to score like that and get the lead for us is amazing. But I expected it honestly. Alright, so those back to back catches by obj I think as I described it, it looked like the football was a yard passed him before he secured it. Did you have a good look at that play that for them? I was kind of watching on the screen so I probably had the same vantage point that you had just an incredible catch with the dB Drag all over the as a special play play we needed Alright, so then as soon as you scored you’re probably checking the clock right gathering not because you know that they’ve got maybe the best kicker in the National Football League and you need to prevent a potential game winning field goal. Right. And then you went and executed that plan. How did you finish the game? I was I mean, I didn’t have to do much in those. Those few plays. I was just like a deep part of the field. But you know, Vaughn had a had a huge huge span of splash play. So the celebration he had it was it was amazing just for us to be able to win in that fashion.
3:21
Come back from some adversity. It was I think it was much needed honestly, to show that we could do stuff like that. That’s championship DNA right there. Yeah, no question you want back to back games despite three giveaways by the audience and we’re going to revisit that Von Miller celebration in just a moment. Stay tuned for that. I want to talk about what this Defence has done during the winning streak toward because if we were to rewind time, fairly or unfairly, I think your group was taking a lot of criticism, let’s just say mid season, right? They maybe weren’t getting the results that we saw last year when you were the top defence in the National Football League. But during this winning streak five games 16 points per game allowed including a couple of touchdowns that were honestly none of your own doing. A takeaways a bunch of more fourth down stops. How do you feel like you’ve turned the corner as a group?
4:04
I think we’re just gelling together, shorten up on communication and playing hard for each other. You know, the more reps you have in a defence and with God’s around you, the better you’re going to get. So I think we’re seeing the fruits of our labour.
4:18
Only thing missing is the defensive touchdown, right? Is that coming Sunday you hold on to that for the playoffs? I told you I won’t mind so if I get the wrong I’m going for that touchdown for sure. Yeah, you guys got out at the end of last season creating takeaways and defensive points and maybe it’s in the cards again this year. Like so many of your teammates, Jordan you had to miss some time due to COVID. During this this winning streak though what was that experience like similar different missing time due to injury?
4:44
Definitely different.
4:46
Usually when you’re you’re injured, you’re in the facility like all day trying to like rehab. You have a lot of human contact, of course.
4:55
I mean, COVID I didn’t have any besides like some FaceTiming friends or luckily some of my teammates were our COVID at the same time. So video game and like, play with each other and stuff like that, like on the game. But the other stuff I spent basically 10 days by myself, which was I mean, it was good. In some respects as far as like, being able to get some solitude.
5:20
I feel refreshed, you know, like more motivated than ever for sure. For this room are about to go on. And so I just look at it as that it just gave me some some rest time and heal up a little bit to get ready for this run. But it was definitely interesting. I’ve never experienced anything like I think we’ve all kind of experienced the burden of what we’re living through for two years now. Is there a relief that comes from being beyond that being able to just have a quieted mind going down the homestretch and and playoffs here, just being on the other side of the experience like that? I would say so. Just to know that for the rest of the season, you know, I’m good. I don’t have any worries about COVID or anything like that. So maybe it was a blessing in disguise for our team. I was just glad we were able to get that win against the Seahawks. That week when a bunch of us were out.
6:09
That was great to watch. You were live tweeting that game pretty well. You might have a future in colour commentary.
6:16
Maybe Maybe I’m gonna keep that door open. Alright, good. How have you enjoyed the captain experience and wearing the green dot this season?
6:25
It’s been great. I’m just so grateful for my teammates, honestly.
6:29
Than Boeing for me and I just tried to give them my all every single week every single day. Naturally, I’m just just being myself but it’s just a just a huge honour to speak up when I need to, but they just they voted for you and a lot of the fans did as well. So close to a first pro bowl. Maybe next year is the year we’ll make that a goal, man. I hope so.
6:50
Jordan, it’s okay. I’d love to talk to rivalries with you because you’re a part of one of the greatest ones in sports right the big game you still are you still pay attention. I know I’ve seen the passion you have for Ohio State Michigan. But this is only your second season the NFL so I don’t want to assume that San Francisco and LA necessarily feels the same way yet but are you starting to get a sense of just how important this rivalry is rams fans?
7:14
Yeah, definitely. I definitely see it. See some foods they have like, and stuff like that. But also just the vibe around the game is just different. You know, especially with fans being there. Distraction, you could just tell us it’s a different energy. Everybody’s playing a little bit harder.
7:32
It just means a little bit more you know, so it’s definitely out there and rivalries for sure.
7:38
By the way, I thought that Rosebowl man, that’s a shootout talented teams on both sides but that wide receiver room at Ohio State is special is is unreal.
7:51
But I’m I’m excited to see what the future holds for them. So yeah, I mean CJ Straub is awesome. But I wouldn’t mind Trading Places with him right he’s got a lot of really good options. That’s Terrell Burgess. Oh, you anything coming off of that game by the way. We had a we had a small little wager but nothing too crazy. Yeah.
8:08
All right. Well, back to the robbery at hand. How do you feel about what’s at stake for week ATM for a regular season game? This is almost as big as it gets. Yeah. I mean, with all the way down as far as like us trying to secure the division. They’re fighting for a playoff spot is definitely a huge game. And we’ll be ready for preparing heart as we speak. So um, yeah, we really want this.
8:33
How the Rams different now than they were in the first meeting at San Francisco back in the November I would say as far as I can speak for. Mike the back end of our defence like I think these wise I would say we’ve we’ve gelled a lot more.
8:47
We know ourselves you know the spots that best like suit our abilities.
8:53
And we go go out there and play and you see different guys like making plays to as far as like the Trayvon Howard’s of the world like families coming into his own. AGC is getting comfortable, and I spent more and more guys to step up, just like they had. It seems like it’s a different guy every week, but uh, yeah, we’re ready. Yeah. Thinking back to that game. Vaughn was just starting to get in the mix. Right. I mean, he wanted us to call NDP on that field. That was cool, but I don’t think he was fully into your defence, yet necessarily. Oh, BJ, same thing. Right. I don’t think we really knew who Greg Gaines was going to become in the second half of this schedule. On that back end of the Defence like you’re talking about, have you sensed the impact of what that front is doing as well now that they are at full strength?
9:39
Oh, for sure.
9:41
There’s some dogs. I always say that they’re our best friends like as far as Asturias stopping the run and all that they make are really really easy. So, so shout out to them like nothing below for them because they’re special. A special group. Jordan asked for the Niners you’ve seen garofolo You haven’t seen Trey Lance, but you did just play Tyler Huntley using Kyler Murray to experiences like that in any way prepare you for what might be coming Sunday, which is still a bit of an unknown.
10:10
Yeah.
10:11
Being able to go against a bunch of different quarterbacks prepares you for everything I’ve seen. I feel like we’ve seen it off so far this year like this late in the season. So whoever we see will be ready for for preparing for both. So whoever plays we will be good to go. Yeah, I know you’re talking about quarterbacks for the rest of the week. But the truth of the matter is they ran at 44 times right? They had drives 18 minutes 11 minutes. It’s no secret what has to be done right for the success.
10:39
Speaking of writing the football cam Akers is a member of your draft class. What perspective do you have on his comeback? This amazing trend to be out here practising with us like this short of time off and Achilles injury UC basketball players taking 18 months off because injuries and he’s out there practising with us it’s just, it’s just a testament to him. How special he is the work he’s put in, and also his faith in God this really really shine through. Nothing, nothing but love for canopies. He’s going to be special whether we have him this year next year. Can’t wait to have him back. I forgot what a hoot guy you are. I’m not surprised that you related to some of the famous Achilles injuries in the NBA right and the timeline that it takes to get back. Oh for sure. I mean, I always follow the NBA. Always.
11:26
Awesome. Alright, let’s finish with our three out segment. This is new since you were on for the first time with this Jordan. And I have three questions for you to close out this interview. If you get them all correct. I make a donation to the LA Rams foundation on your behalf. Same with all your teammates who have come through this season. It’s been it’s been great to get to know you all better the 2021 rams and now going into 20. New Year and a postseason question. Let’s start with this coming off the holidays. What was the best Christmas present you received?
11:56
The best Christmas present I received I would say I really just enjoy spending time with family honestly that’s like because my sister flew in she was able to so So yeah, that’s I we rarely get to see each other like that. so I would say that’s my my biggest quality time with family. That’s a great answer, they’re gonna appreciate
12:23

Playoff Takeaways: Stars steal momentum with back-to-back wins over Golden Knights

Published

on

It is easy to say – because it’s logical to project – that there’s no way the Dallas Stars are actually going to win four straight games to save their season against the Vegas Golden Knights.

This conclusion isn’t because the Stars aren’t an excellent team. They are. But so are the Knights.

It’s more math than emotion: only four teams in National Hockey League history have rallied from a 0-3 deficit to win a playoff series, and it has never happened in a conference final, where teams that win the first three games are 46-0 in advancing to the Stanley Cup Final.

The Golden Knights, a 51-win team that had 111 points in the regular season, aren’t going to lose four straight playoff games after losing only three times in the first month of the Stanley Cup tournament.

This Stars’ comeback almost certainly is not happening despite Dallas’ impressive 4-2 road win Saturday in Las Vegas.

But the fantastic thing about sports is that you actually have to play the games.

And ask yourself this: Can the Dallas Stars win two consecutive games? Because that’s all they have to do now after halting the Knights and stealing momentum by winning Games 4 and 5 in the Western Conference Final.

The Stars no longer have to climb Mt. Everest. They just have to get up the Eiger.

Game 6 is Monday in Dallas. And the Stars will have captain and key forward Jamie Benn back after a two-game suspension.

So check your climbing harness and make sure you’re roped in. This could get wild.

“We’ve done it all year long where we’ve stayed with our game and we find a way,” the senior Star, Joe Pavelski, said in his walkoff interview with Hockey Night in Canada. “It was a gutsy win coming in here. It gives us life, gives us life.”

The guy most responsible for giving Dallas life was depth forward Ty Dellandrea, who scored twice in 87 seconds halfway through the third period to triple his playoff goals total and propel the Stars to victory in an elimination game they trailed twice.

Luke Glendening, another bottom-six winger, tied the game on a deflection at 15:24 of the first period. And Dallas sniper Jason Robertson, re-ignited in this series, made it 2-2 at 5:29 of the middle frame.

Importantly, the goals were an immediate response by the Stars after Ivan Barbashev scored for Vegas at 13:36 and Chandler Stephenson at 3:20, respectively. The Knights’ two leads lasted less than four minutes.

Dallas goalie Jake Oettinger stopped 27 of 29 Vegas shots for his second straight win since getting pulled from Game 3 for the third time in eight playoff contests.

STANLEY CUP MAGIC

Much like the 82-game regular season, it’s the journey that surprises and enthralls us in the playoffs – not merely the destination.

Dellandrea scored just nine times in the regular season and was a healthy scratch for coach Peter DeBoer when this series began. He was also a healthy scratch when the Stars decided their second-round series by winning Game 7 against the Seattle Kraken.

But there he was on Saturday, extending the Stars’ season by scoring twice in the third period while playing his ass off every fourth shift. Besides his pair of goals, Dellandrea had five shot attempts and three hits in 15:59 of ice time.

The 22-year-old, 2018 first-round pick from Port Perry, Ont., had logged one NHL playoff game before this spring.

Asked about his performance, Dellandrea told ESPN: “We’ve got bigger things that we want to accomplish here. So, this was a big win and we get to go back home and have another opportunity. But we’re playing for a lot.”

BIG BENN

It’s not difficult finding inspiration at playoff time, but the Stars made Benn’s suspension a rally focal point. His teammates were determined to win twice without him so their captain’s season didn’t end with his unprovoked cross-check to the neck of Mark Stone two minutes in Game 3.

Mission accomplished. Getting an impactful, battle-hardened veteran like Benn back should turbo-charge the Stars. But they need to be careful about letting their urgency or focus wane after playing the last two games for Benn.

Relief can turn into a dip in emotion when teams get key players back from injury, as if the player’s return alone means the hardest part is over.

“We’ve been through a little bit of adversity this round,” Dellandrea said. “A big message in the room was: We want to get Jamie back, you know, get our captain back. I think we just focussed on that. We’ve got him back (and) head home for Game 6. That’s what we’re thinking about right now.”

FOUR-LINE PERFECTION

The thoroughness of the Stars’ engagement on Saturday was reflected in the ice times of DeBoer’s four centres: Roope Hintz, 15:43; Wyatt Johnson, 15:52; Max Domi, 16:32; and Radek Faksa, 15:05. Why didn’t Dallas’ best players play more? Because the guys in the bottom half of the lineup earned their ice time in a must-win game.

LONG NIGHT FOR KNIGHTS

There are a couple of things Vegas can latch on to after Game 5.

Their top players, especially the first line of Jack Eichel, Jonathan Marchessault and Ivan Barbashev, can play a lot better – even if Barbashev did open scoring on a strong move to the net after Dallas defenceman Miro Heiskanen drifted out of position to converge on Eichel along the side boards.

And the bounces could have scarcely gone worse for the Knights. Glendening’s goal was a tip on a seeing-eye point shot by Thomas Harley. Robertson’s goal came after his initial attempt bounced back to him off defenceman Shea Theodore, and the follow-up shot tumbled off the Knight’s stick and up and over goalie Adin Hill. Dellandrea’s tie-breaker ticked the stick of Vegas defenceman Alex Pietrangelo and rattled between Hill’s blocker and pad. And Dellandrea’s clincher came from a scramble when the puck bounced to him in the slot off Stone’s skate, and Hill was unable to make a save because Domi has been knocked into him by Golden Knight Nicolas Hague and a turnover by Zach Whitecloud.

None of the goals was clean. But the Stars earned them by battling to get to the dirty areas. And the Knights are allowed to score greasy goals, too. They just didn’t. And now they have to play a sixth game on Monday.

ELEPHANT IN THE ROOM

The Knights did not expose their 61.4 per cent penalty-killing, the worst by any team that has won at least one playoff round since the NHL began tracking the stat in 1977-78, because they did not take a penalty in Game 5.

But Vegas also failed to score on the game’s only power play, a slew-foot tripping penalty by Mason Marchment just 50 seconds in. In 16 playoff games, the Knights’ power play has scored nine goals and ranks 11th among 16 qualifiers at 17.7 per cent.

The Knights have been winning by dominating five-on-five play. But they didn’t on Saturday.
