Valparaiso @ Jacksonville State
Current Records: Valparaiso 0-3; Jacksonville State 1-2
What to Know
The Jacksonville State Gamecocks will take on the Valparaiso Brown and Gold at 5:30 p.m. ET on Monday at Baha Mar Convention Center. Given that both teams suffered a loss in their last game, they both have a little extra motivation heading into this game.
It was close but no cigar for Jacksonville State as they fell 69-65 to the Troy Trojans on Tuesday.
Meanwhile, the contest between Valpo and the Stanford Cardinal on Wednesday was not a total blowout, but with the Brown and Gold falling 74-60 on the road, it was darn close to turning into one. One thing holding Valpo back was the mediocre play of Sheldon Edwards, who did not have his best game: he finished with 11 points on 3-for-12 shooting in his 25 minutes on the court.
The losses put Jacksonville State at 1-2 and Valpo at 0-3. A pair of offensive numbers to keep in mind before tip-off: The Gamecocks have only been able to knock down 37.20% percent of their shots, which is the 11th lowest field goal percentage in college basketball. The Brown and Gold have experienced some struggles of their own as they are stumbling into the matchup with the 50th fewest points per game in college basketball, having accrued only 63.7 on average. It’s possible one of these Achilles’ heels will wind up tripping the losing team up.
