Alcorn State @ Southern Illinois
Current Records: Alcorn State 0-4; Southern Illinois 2-3
What to Know
The Alcorn State Braves will face off against the Southern Illinois Salukis on the road at 8 p.m. ET on Friday at Banterra Center. Given that these two teams suffered a loss in their last game, they both have a little extra motivation heading into this matchup.
Alcorn State was expected to have a tough go of it last week, and, well, they did. They found themselves the reluctant recipients of an unpleasant 84-57 punch to the gut against the Gonzaga Bulldogs. The top scorer for the Braves was guard Keondre Montgomery (13 points).
As for SIU, it looks like they got the smaller half of the wishbone at Thanksgiving dinner. They lost 66-64 to the Creighton Bluejays on Monday on a last-minute half-court bomb from Creighton’s guard Ryan Nembhard with 0:01 left to play. Forward Marcus Domask (14 points) and guard Lance Jones (14 points) were the top scorers for SIU.
Alcorn State is now 0-4 while the Salukis sit at 2-3. Two offensive numbers to keep in mind before tip-off: The Braves have only been able to knock down 38.60% percent of their shots, which is the 26th lowest field goal percentage in college basketball. SIU has experienced some struggles of their own as they are 39th worst in college basketball in points per game, with only 63.4 on average. It’s possible one of these Achilles’ heels will wind up tripping the losing team up.
