Who’s Playing

Dixie State @ No. 24 Southern California

Current Records: Dixie State 1-3; Southern California 3-0

What to Know

Dixie State was within striking distance but couldn’t close the gap this past Saturday as they fell 79-73 to the Northridge Matadors.

Meanwhile, USC strolled past the Florida Gulf Coast Eagles with points to spare last Tuesday, taking the matchup 78-61. Guard Boogie Ellis and forward Isaiah Mobley were among the main playmakers for USC as the former had 18 points and six assists along with eight rebounds and the latter had 13 points and six assists in addition to nine boards. Mobley hadn’t helped his team much against the Temple Owls two weeks ago, so this was a nice turnaround for him.

Dixie State have to know they’ll be fighting an uphill battle given the 26 point spread they are up against. However, those who like betting on the underdog should be happy to hear that they are 2-0 against the spread when expected to lose.

The Trailblazers are now 1-3 while the Trojans sit at 3-0. A couple stats to keep in the back of your head while watching: Dixie State has allowed their opponents to shoot 48.80% from the floor on average, which is the 12th highest shooting percentage allowed in college basketball. USC’s offense has more to brag about, as they they enter the game with a 51.10% field goal percentage, good for 20th best in college basketball. So the cards are definitely stacked in their favor.

Davante Adams Comments On His Wild Offseason Ahead

Published

on

Davante Adams has been through a lot in the last 12 months.

He said goodbye to the Green Bay Packers, which was the team that drafted him.

Adams then joined the Las Vegas Raiders to reunite with his college roommate Derek Carr, who is leaving the team after just one season together.

At the Pro Bowl, Adams was asked about the situation and provided context to many rumors that have been floating around.

Adams has publicly shown his support for Aaron Rodgers to join the Raiders, now that Carr will be leaving the team.

Rodgers has been scrutinized in the public eye as of late, given the fact that he is likely to leave the Packers.

Many have pointed to a Rodgers-Adams reunion as a solution to the Raiders’ recent woes.

The Raiders have not won a playoff game since 2002, long before Carr joined the team.

Despite adding Adams, and having many stars on the defensive side of the ball, the Raiders haven’t found a groove in the past several seasons.

A player of Rodgers’ caliber would dramatically increase their chances of winning a playoff game.

The Raiders, however, still have to deal with Carr’s contract.

Carr is tied to the team until 2024.

Unless something major changes in the next few months, it looks like the Raiders will be on the hook for most of, if not all of Carr’s contract, even if he is playing on a different team.

The Rodgers, Adams, and Carr saga will be something to monitor in the next several weeks.

We’ll provide updates as we get them.

Report: Nets exploring trading Dinwiddie, picks to Raptors for VanVleet

Published

on

Let the trade deadline drama begin in the NBA.

The first big domino fell Sunday when the Brooklyn Nets reportedly moved disgruntled star Kyrie Irving to the Dallas Mavericks, for Spencer Dinwiddie and a handful of draft capital.

However, NBA correspondent Marc Stein is reporting Monday that the deal is still not official and that a third team may enter the fold, namely the Toronto Raptors.

Stein is reporting that the Nets have “explored the feasibility” of packaging the newly acquired Dinwiddie with draft capital in hopes of acquiring Raptors point guard Fred VanVleet.

VanVleet, along with almost every player on the Raptors roster, has been the centre of trade rumours for the past month, as the Raptors continue to remain in limbo about their team’s future.

In fact, ESPN‘s Adrian Wojnarowski reported Monday that the majority of trade discussions just three days before Thursday’s deadline revolve around the Raptors.

What Toronto decides to do remains to be seen, but the market is clearly there should they decide to be sellers.

Stein also reported Monday that the Nets are also very interested in Raptors star Pascal Siakam, though Toronto seems reluctant to part ways with its forward from Cameroon.

The Raptors just finished up a season-long road trip with a 4-3 record, and currently sit 12th in the Eastern Conference with a 25-30 overall record. They are just a half game out of the conference’s final spot in the NBA’s play-in tournament.

And while it’s undecided whether they will be buyers or sellers over the next few days, what is clear: they have some chips to play with.

The NBA’s trade deadline is this Thursday at 3 p.m. ET.
