Who’s Playing

Charlotte @ Houston

Current Records: Charlotte 13-8; Houston 2-16

What to Know

The Houston Rockets haven’t won a game against the Charlotte Hornets since Feb. 4 of last year, but they’ll be looking to end the drought this past Saturday. Houston will take on Charlotte at 8 p.m. ET at Toyota Center after having had a few days off. These two teams come into the contest bolstered by wins in their previous games.

The Rockets have more to be thankful for after their matchup against the Chicago Bulls this past Wednesday. Houston managed a 118-113 win over Chicago. Houston’s small forward Danuel House Jr. filled up the stat sheet, picking up 18 points. House Jr. had some trouble finding his footing against the Boston Celtics last week, so this was a step in the right direction. House Jr.’s points were the most he has had all season.

A well-balanced attack led the Hornets over the Minnesota Timberwolves every single quarter on their way to victory this past Friday. Charlotte captured a comfortable 133-115 victory. Charlotte’s shooting guard Kelly Oubre Jr. was one of the most active players for the squad, shooting 7-for-13 from beyond the arc and finishing with 27 points.

The Rockets are expected to lose this next one by 5.5. Their home court has been no bettor’s paradise, as they’ve failed to beat the spread in five of their seven home games.

The wins brought Houston up to 2-16 and the Hornets to 13-8. A pair of offensive stats to keep an eye on: Houston is stumbling into the contest with the fourth fewest points per game in the league, having accrued only 101.2 on average. Charlotte’s offense has more to brag about, as they they rank second in the league when it comes to points per game, with 112.9 on average. So the cards are definitely stacked in their favor.

The 2022 Presidents Cup continues this week in Charlotte with the United States flexing its might as it attempts to win its ninth straight trophy dating back to 2005. The Americans are trying to win their fifth straight Presidents Cup on home soil, while the International team is seeking its first victory since 1998 (or perhaps at least its first tie since 2003).

The U.S. was a heavy favorite entering this year’s event at Quail Hollow Golf Club, and the belief in its victory only soared after play on Thursday and Friday as the Americans took a huge 8-2 advantage. However, the international side bounced back in a big way on Saturday thanks to the efforts of rising star Tom Kim. The 20-year-old turned in a breakout performance, willing his team back into contention and setting up an interesting Sunday as opposed to waiting for a U.S. blowout to conclude
