Who’s Playing

Indiana @ Michigan State

Current Records: Indiana 16-7; Michigan State 17-6

What to Know

The #17 Michigan State Spartans won both of their matches against the Indiana Hoosiers last season (78-71 and 64-58) and are aiming for the same result Saturday. MSU and IU will face off in a Big Ten battle at 3:30 p.m. ET at Jack Breslin Student Events Center. Given that both teams suffered a loss in their last game, they both have a little extra motivation heading into this contest.

The Spartans came up short against the Wisconsin Badgers on Tuesday, falling 70-62. Despite the defeat, MSU got a solid performance out of forward Marcus Bingham Jr., who had 15 points.

Meanwhile, IU came up short against the Northwestern Wildcats on Tuesday, falling 59-51. A silver lining for IU was the play of forward Trayce Jackson-Davis, who posted a double-double on 13 points and 11 rebounds along with three blocks.

MSU is the favorite in this one, with an expected 4-point margin of victory. They have failed bettors playing the spread in their past three games, so buyers beware.

The Spartans are now 17-6 while the Hoosiers sit at 16-7. A couple numbers to keep in mind before tip-off: MSU comes into the game boasting the eighth most blocked shots per game in college basketball at 5.8. IU is not quite as good, but they are no chumps, either: they enter the matchup with 5.5 blocked shots per game on average, good for 13th best in college basketball. Points in the paint might be hard to come by.

Marcus Smart Has A Message Ahead Of Game 7

Boston is one of the ultimate sports towns on Earth, and the Boston Celtics have had plenty to do with that.

For decades, they were the undisputed greatest franchise in the league, and not even ceding that much ground to the Los Angeles Lakers has been enough to change that status.

That’s why Celtics guard Marcus Smart knows what’s at stake when they take the floor for Game 7 tonight.

In a recent interview, the former Defensive Player of the Year acknowledged that making history would be huge for this group.

The Celtics could join the 2004 Boston Red Sox as the only two teams in major sports history to come back from a 0-3 series deficit.

NBA teams are 0-149 in that scenario and just three teams before them were able to even force Game 7, although all of them had to play it on the road.

The Celtics have taken a ‘one game at a time’ mindset ahead of tonight’s matchup, warning the Miami Heat not to let them win one game.

Joe Mazzulla has been more confident and sound in this three-game rampage, but the players’ body language, mindset, and energy, have been the biggest difference from the first three matchups.

Now, all eyes will be set on the TD Garden to see whether this team has what it takes to write its name in history books.

Anything can happen tonight, and that’s the beauty of sports.
