Fantasy Baseball Rankings 2022: Breakouts from proven model that nailed Vladimir Guerrero Jr.’s big year

Published

on

No position is more loaded entering 2022 Fantasy baseball drafts than right field. If MVPs like Bryce Harper or Mookie Betts aren’t your cup of tea, then you have options like Juan Soto or Aaron Judge. But if you’re searching for an overlooked player at the position, then Jesus Sanchez of the Marlins is a name to consider. As a rookie last year, Sanchez clubbed 14 home runs in just 227 at-bats, including smacking eight homers in September alone.

Sanchez has already been named Miami’s starting center fielder for Opening Day, but he still carries eligibility at the corner spots after only playing those positions last year. Could he be a 2022 Fantasy baseball breakout candidate and an alternative to the bigger name right fielders? Before going on the clock, be sure to see the 2022 Fantasy baseball rankings and cheat sheets from the proven computer model at SportsLine.

Last season, SportsLine’s Projection Model identified several top Fantasy baseball sleepers, breakouts and busts, including Blue Jays first baseman Vladimir Guerrero Jr.

After struggling to realize his middle-of-the-lineup potential his first two seasons, Guerrero had a 2021 Fantasy baseball ADP outside the top 50 and the model predicted he’d outperform that position significantly. The result: Guerrero finished second in AL MVP voting with 48 home runs and 111 RBIs while slashing .311/.401/.601. Anybody who followed its advice and picked up Guerrero in their Fantasy baseball drafts received a top-10 talent for a fourth or fifth-round price.

The SportsLine model is engineered by the same people who powered projections for all three major Fantasy sites. And that same group is sharing its 2022 Fantasy baseball rankings and cheat sheets over at SportsLine, helping you find Fantasy baseball sleepers, breakouts and busts long before your competition. Their cheat sheets, available for leagues on many major sites, are updated multiple times every day.

Any time more MLB news comes out about the updated 2022 MLB schedule, free agency signings or Fantasy baseball injuries, the team at SportsLine updates its projections. Go to SportsLine now to see these proven Fantasy baseball cheat sheets.

Top 2022 Fantasy baseball breakouts

One of the 2022 Fantasy baseball breakouts the model is projecting: Tigers outfielder Akil Baddoo. As a rookie last year, Baddoo split time between center field and left field and was in the running for AL Rookie of the Year until a late-season injury. He hit .259 with double-digit homers (13) and stolen bases (18) despite having fewer than 500 plate appearances. Baddoo had an .800 OPS until suffering a concussion in mid-August and his numbers dropped considerably after his injured list stint.

Now with a full offseason of recovery and fine-tuning of his swing, Baddoo is poised to become an everyday player for Detroit. He primarily hit leadoff last season and that spot in the order should have even more run-scoring opportunities this year with Javier Baez‘ bat added to the middle of the lineup. Baddoo fits the profile of a Fantasy baseball breakout 2022 candidate, and the SportsLine model ranks him among its top 10 center fielders. He’s also slotted above established veterans at the position such as Cody Bellinger and Lorenzo Cain.

SportsLine’s Fantasy baseball rankings 2022 are also high on Tigers starting pitcher Casey Mize as a breakout. The No. 1 overall pick in the 2018 MLB Draft had a solid rookie season with a 3.71 ERA but he didn’t have a lot of run support and finished with a 7-9 record while only striking out 118 over 150 1/3 innings.

While Mize may never be Jacob deGrom when it comes to overpowering hitters, his stuff is certainly good enough for him to improve his strikeout rates and the Tigers could be poised to make a jump with a strong farm system. Mize hasn’t allowed a run and has struck out nine through five innings of spring training work and he has four pitches in his five-pitch mix that opponents hit .225 or worse against last season. That’s a big reason why the model ranks him ahead of starters like Shane McClanahan and Pablo Lopez, who are being drafted five rounds earlier on average.

How to find proven 2022 Fantasy baseball rankings

SportsLine is also high on a surprising starting pitcher who lands in the top five of its positional rankings. This player is barely going off the board in the top 60 picks, but is projected to outperform starters such as Max Scherzer, Corbin Burnes and Shane Bieber. This pick could be the difference in winning your league or going home with nothing. You can only see who it is here.

So which 2022 Fantasy breakouts should you target in your upcoming drafts? Visit SportsLine now to get 2022 Fantasy baseball rankings for every single position, all from the model that called Vlad Guerrero Jr.’s big season, and find out.

Richard Sherman Shares His Preview For Eagles-49ers

The San Francisco 49ers and Philadelphia Eagles will face off in this weekend’s marquee matchup in the NFL.

It will be a rematch of last season’s NFC Championship Game and hopefully a more competitive game than that one, as 49ers quarterback Brock Purdy exited it early with a torn UCL in his throwing elbow.

San Francisco is currently favored to win that game even though it will be played in Philly, and former star cornerback Richard Sherman, who had a stint with the Niners not too long ago, says he expects the Niners to win, per The Volume.

Sherman’s reasoning is that although the Eagles are an NFL-best 10-1, their wins haven’t come that easily, and their defense is vulnerable.

They rank 19th in total yards given up and 20th in points allowed, and their pass defense ranks near the bottom of the league in multiple categories.

San Francisco has the goods to expose that pass defense with two stud wide receivers in Deebo Samuel and Brandon Aiyuk and one of the league’s best tight ends in George Kittle, not to mention quarterback Brock Purdy.

Purdy leads everyone in passer rating, yards per pass attempt, yards per completion, and pass completion percentage while ranking second in QBR.

Sherman also mentioned how the Niners’ defense has gotten even better after their trade for pass rusher Chase Young about a month ago.

Young has 1.5 sacks in three games with them, and the attention he has attracted from opposing offensive lineman has helped unlock Nick Bosa, last season’s Defensive Player of the Year.
