Duke vs. Miami score: Hurricanes upset No. 2 Blue Devils, handing Coach K first home loss of final season

Miami pulled off a stunner on Saturday as the Hurricanes outlasted No. 2 Duke 76-74 on the road to improve to 13-3 (5-0 ACC) by handing the Blue Devils (12-2, 2-1) their first conference loss and first home loss of Mike Krzyzewski’s final season as coach. A Kameron McGusty jumper put the Hurricanes ahead 75-74 with 20 seconds left, and Duke missed three potential go-ahead shots from there, including a 3-point miss from Trevor Keels as the final buzzer sounded.

Charlie Moore led Miami with 18 points and seven steals as the Hurricanes forced 17 Duke turnovers. By contrast, the Hurricanes turned it over just five times. For a team that entered ranked 213th in KenPom’s defensive efficiency metric, it was an impressive showing on that side of the ball. While Duke’s Paolo Banchero finished with 20 points and hit 2 of 4 attempts from 3-point range, his teammates struggled from the outside.

Duke’s other players combined to go just 4 of 17 from beyond the arc as Miami’s guards applied pressure and dictated the pace throughout the night. Jordan Miller came up particularly big for Miami in the second half as the 6-foot-6 wing scored 13 of his 17 points after halftime for Miami. Isaiah Wong added 15 and McGusty had 14 for Miami, which extended its winning streak to nine games.

The run of success for the ‘Canes is particularly surprising because of how their season started. On Nov. 28, they fell to 4-3 with a 32-point loss against Alabama. Among their losses were games against UCF and Dayton. But since then, Miami has found offensive success behind its quality guard play. McGusty, Miller and Moore are all seniors with extensive experience, and Wong shouldered a heavy load for the team last season before Miller and Moore transferred in.

Duke’s outside shooting continues to be a concern, but its perimeter defense also left something to be desired against Miami. While the Blue Devils should still be regarded as the favorite to win the ACC, Miami now has the lead in the conference standings and may have a shot to crack the AP Top 25 on Monday after picking up a marquee win to accompany their other recent victories against lesser ACC foes.

Packers’ Aaron Rodgers sets up QB Danny Etling’s long rushing TD during mid-game interview in preseason win

Quarterback Danny Etling scored a 51-yard touchdown run in the fourth quarter of Friday’s preseason victory over the New Orleans Saints, yet the highlight of the play wasn’t the touchdown run itself — but who was on air when the play occurred. Etling took the snap and ran to his right untouched for the touchdown with Aaron Rodgers being interviewed mid-game.

Needless to say, Rodgers was pretty excited when Etling — the third-string quarterback — had the big play for the score.

“What did I tell ya. What did I tell ya. What did I tell ya,” Rodgers said as he clapped his hands and smiled. “Yeah baby, I love it. I love it.”

This isn’t the first time Etling ran a naked bootleg and scored on a long touchdown run. Etling scored on an 86-yard touchdown run on a naked bootleg to his right during his time with the New England Patriots in 2018 — and this touchdown looked eerily similar. In fact, Rodgers was complimenting Etling’s athleticism and reminiscing about that very run minutes before he took off for the score Friday night.

Etling has bounced around the league, being waived and signed by the Patriots, Atlanta Falcons and Seattle Seahawks several times. Etling also was on the Minnesota Vikings practice squad, the Denver Broncos practice squad, the Packers practice squad and the Jacksonville Jaguars practice squad. He actually was assigned to the Packers practice squad and later signed by the Jaguars and assigned to their practice squad last December.

Overall, Etling has been involved in 27 transactions since entering the league in 2018 — yet has never played a regular season snap in the NFL

For one night, the former seventh-round quarterback from LSU recaptured his rookie year magic. No one at Lambeau Field may have been happier than Rodgers.
