Cowboys roster move: Dallas waives defensive end Bradlee Anae after playing 11 games with team

The roster adjustments never stop for the Cowboys.

The Dallas Cowboys went undefeated in the month of October and the hope is that their winning ways continue all the way into February. Tuesday marked the NFL’s trade deadline for the season, and to the surprise of no one, the Cowboys didn’t make any big moves.

Much of the reason for Dallas’ inactivity on the trade market is due to the fact that they have a number of players still set to return from injury. The likes of Michael Gallup, DeMarcus Lawrence, Neville Gallimore, and Trysten Hill will all merit roster spots when they are ready, and so it is going to be difficult enough for Dallas to find ways to fit them in.

Last week saw the return and the first NFL action for the team’s second-round pick in Kelvin Joseph. It is possible that Michael Gallup could be ready to return officially this week, and if he does the Cowboys will need one of those roster spots.

Just where is it going to come from? On Tuesday the Cowboys found a way.

The Dallas Cowboys have waived second-year defensive end Bradlee Anae

While Dallas did win on Sunday night against the Minnesota Vikings it was a victory that went down to the wire. Three of the points that Minnesota had at their end came on a drive that was kept alive when the Vikings punted but the Cowboys were offsides. Second-year defensive end Bradlee Anae was the guilty Cowboys party.

Whether it be partly due to that, partly due to roster spots becoming necessary, or partly due to the fact that this team simply hasn’t found a way to get Anae on the field, on Tuesday the Cowboys waived him. They also officially placed Jabril Cox on injured reserve.

Obviously as he is subject to waivers it is possible that Bradlee Anae winds up back with the Cowboys, but it is likely that other teams had high draft grades on him as he was highly-touted leading up to the 2020 NFL Draft (although he did last to the fifth round).

Even if this particular roster adjustment was made for (hypothetically speaking) someone like Michael Gallup, the reality exists that the Cowboys are going to get their best defensive end back soon in DeMarcus Lawrence, so trading Bradlee Anae for him isn’t exactly a discussion or a debate. Another spot on the roster was created by placing Jabril Cox on injured reserve, but the Cowboys will need another linebacker to replace him.

All told, Anae played in 11 games for the Cowboys. All the best to him wherever he winds up.

The Boston Celtics have had quite the offseason.

After falling short in the Eastern Conference Finals to the Miami Heat, many around the league expected them to make some moves.

The Portland Trail Blazers recently sent Jrue Holiday to the Celtics shortly after trading for him from the Milwaukee Bucks.

While Holiday will be a welcomed addition to this roster, the Celtics traded two of their top role players back to the Trail Blazers.

After Robert Williams and Malcolm Brogdon were moved, Jayson Tatum wrote messages to each player on his Instagram, per Ball is Life’s Twitter account.

Williams and Brogdon each had a relationship with Tatum, one of the league’s brightest stars.

They’ll each have an opportunity on the Trail Blazers, hoping to become stars in their own right.

While Tatum might miss Williams and Brogdon, adding a player of Holiday’s caliber will likely cheer him up.

Holiday is widely viewed as one of the league’s best defenders, which should help this Celtics roster.

Pairing him up with Tatum and Jaylen Brown will be a “Big 3” effect for the Celtics.

Adding Holiday was a necessary step for the Celtics as they compete with teams like the Bucks, who made a massive splash by adding Damian Lillard.

Will they be able to turn that into a meaningful season?

This trio has never played together, something they’ll need to work on to achieve success.

With the season slated to begin in a few weeks, these three have limited time to establish chemistry.

Heading into their Sunday Night Football matchup with the Kansas City Chiefs, there was a lot of doubt surrounding the New York Jets.

Many believed their team wouldn’t be able to compete, especially with Zach Wilson at the helm.

While the Jets ultimately fell short, Wilson played well, garnering props for his performance.

In an image shared by Ari Meirov, LeBron James lauded Wilson’s performance on Instagram, saying, “Keep ya head up high and keep pushing forward.”

Wilson finished the game with 245 passing yards and two touchdown passes.

This performance might not have been enough to win the Jets the game, but it was a step in the right direction for Wilson.

Aaron Rodgers was brought in during the offseason to take over as the Jets’ starting quarterback.

After his injury, however, there was a collective sigh from Jets fans, who weren’t looking forward to another year of Wilson.

If he’s able to perform throughout the year as he did on Sunday Night Football, those sighs could quickly turn to cheers.

The NFL continues to be a “What have you done for me lately?” league.

Wilson might have had critics last season, but he could turn them back in his favor as the weeks go on.

Whether he can sustain this level of play throughout the season remains to be seen.

After capturing the attention of James, however, it could light a fire under Wilson, propelling him to greater success in the future.
