After a week off, Combate Global returns on Friday with lightweights battling it out in a USA vs. Mexico tournament. The representatives from each nation will fight each other on each side of the bracket to ensure a Mexico vs. USA final. Irish fighter Patrick Lehane won a Combate Global tournament featuring European fighters and will replace Mexico’s Miguel Villegas after he was injured in training. Lehane is reportedly applying for Mexican citizenship and will fight Hugo Perez in one of the four quarterfinal matchups. You can stream the action live on Paramount+.

Combate Global picks for Nov. 12 lightweight tournament

Before tuning into Friday’s tournament, you need to see the picks from SportsLine’s MMA insider Andrew Gombas. For Friday’s Combate Global lightweight tournament, Gombas is backing Cristian Perez to beat Daniel Soto in one of the Team Mexico quarterfinal matchups. Perez is a dynamic 22-year-old submission specialist who has won his first six fights to start what appears to be a promising career.

Perez was originally scheduled to face Villegas, but had his opponent changed to Soto late. Even though he’s had less time to prepare, it’s a better matchup for the youngster. Perez has finished five of his six fights by submission, with his last four victories coming via first-round submission.

Meanwhile, Soto has been submitted four times in his career. Even in a one-round fight, he’ll be hard-pressed to keep Perez from taking the battle to the ground and trying to end the match quickly. This will be Perez’s fourth fight for Combate Global this year; all three of his other fights ended with submissions in 3:30 or quicker.
