College football odds, lines, schedule for Week 12: Alabama, Ohio State big favorites in divisional showdowns

We have reached the penultimate weekend of the college football regular season, and the slate includes some very spicy matchups that will go a long way toward determining divisional and conference championships.

Michigan State will visit Ohio State in a massive Big Ten East showdown, while Arkansas will travel to Tuscaloosa to take on an Alabama team that will clinch the SEC West with a win. Meanwhile, Oregon will put its College Football Playoff hopes on the line against Utah.

Caesars Sportsbook has released early lines for the upcoming weekend. Let’s break down what the oddsmakers expect to happen in Week 12.

The big games

Michigan State at Ohio State (-20): Wow, look at the disrespect. The Spartans control their own destiny in the Big Ten East title race but apparently don’t stand much of a chance against a Buckeyes team that is playing some of the best football in the country. The Spartans pass defense has been hit-and-miss, and Buckeyes quarterback CJ Stroud has emerged as a legitimate Heisman Trophy candidate. This ought to be fun.

Arkansas at Alabama (-20): The Razorbacks are getting about as much respect at Michigan State, and coach Sam Pittman’s crew will have that at the top of their minds in Bryant-Denny Stadium on Saturday afternoon. Alabama cruised by New Mexico State last weekend, but it’ll be interesting to see if the Crimson Tide fixed their offensive line woes as they got full on a cupcake last weekend.

Oregon at Utah (-3): This one really jumped off the page. Oregon, a team that, as of now, is in the College Football Playoff according to the most recent rankings, is a three-point dog to a Utes team that has had some ups and downs throughout the season. Last week’s win over Washington State wasn’t exactly crisp, but they still found a way to pull away — and cover — in foggy Eugene.

Iowa State at Oklahoma (-6): The Cyclones have been one of the biggest disappointments of the season but have stunned the Sooners before. The quarterback situation in Norman has to have Iowa State’s defense foaming at the mouth. The Sooners still have CFP hopes, but they’re going to have to solve some issues this week and show it against Matt Campbell’s squad. Clearly, oddsmakers think that might be easier said than done.

Other big games

Wake Forest at Clemson (-3.5): The Demon Deacons can clinch the ACC Atlantic with a win over the Tigers, but oddsmakers seem to think that public will still give the Tigers the respect they’ve earned over the last decade. Quarterback Sam Hartman and the rest of the Deacs will have their work cut out for them against this loaded Tigers defense.

SMU at Cincinnati (-12.5): The Mustangs will provide the biggest test to the Bearcats prior to the AAC Championship Game. They’re 8-2, just destroyed UCF and are ranked sixth nationally in total offense at 498.7 yards per game. This one might turn into a shootout which will put a ton of pressure on Bearcats quarterback Desmond Ridder.

Oklahoma State (-11) at Texas Tech: The Red Raiders fired coach Matt Wells earlier this season but managed to get a big win over Iowa State last weekend. The stout Cowboys defense has Mike Gundy’s crew in position to win the Big 12 and potentially make the College Football Playoff. It’ll be strength vs. strength in Lubbock in what is going to be one of the most entertaining games of the weekend.

The Dodgers Are First To An Impressive 2022 Mark

Thanks to the recent slide of the New York Yankees, the Los Angeles Dodgers now have the best record in all of baseball and are dominating everybody in their path.

After signing Freddie Freeman, the Dodgers became instant favorites to win another World Series title, just as they did in 2020.

They’re in a good position to potentially do that again.

Last night, they opened up a series against the struggling Milwaukee Brewers at American Family Field.

They had learned of some tough news earlier in the day when it was revealed that Walker Buehler would be out for the rest of the season.

But that didn’t stop Julio Urias, who dominated the Brewers for five innings and led the way as the Dodgers became the first team in all of baseball to reach 80 wins.

80 Wins For The Dodgers

Once again, these Dodgers are at the top of the heap.

Even with all of the injuries they have dealt with, they remain as one of the top teams in all of baseball.

Even more impressive, they’ve picked up their 80th win before they even reached 40 losses on the year.

They expanded their lead in the NL West to 17 games.

They’ve effectively buried the San Diego Padres and the San Francisco Giants.

The new “Evil Empire” resides in Los Angeles now.

This is one of, if not the best team in all of baseball from top to bottom.

The wins keep piling up.

Despite the end of their 12-game winning streak, they remain hot and are showing no signs of slowing down.

The Dodgers are going to be a tough team to deal with come October, which is where they always shine the brightest.

Ravens’ J.K. Dobbins ‘continues to improve’; John Harbaugh not ready to commit to RB’s Week 1 status yet

J.K. Dobbins continues to progress in his rehab from last season’s ACL injury that took away his entire sophomore season in the NFL. The Baltimore Ravens are still being cautious with Dobbins, giving him two off days to rest up the knee before ramping things back up Monday.

Dobbins looked good when he participated in team drills, yet didn’t take any snaps against a live defense. John Harbaugh still liked what he’s seen from his starting running back.

“He looked good. He’s kind of back on track, and I thought he looked a little better than he did before – last week,” Harbaugh said Monday. “So, he continues to improve, and we’ll see where it goes.”

Are the Ravens going to ramp things up every practice to get Dobbins ready for the season? Harbaugh still doesn’t have a timetable if Dobbins will be ready for Week 1, staying noncommittal amid the rehab process.

“I think it depends on the injury and just the improvement with it – the progress he makes from one day to the next,” Harbaugh said. “That remains to be seen.”

Dobbins returned to practice a week ago, and insisted he’ll be ready for the season opener against the New York Jets on Sept. 11. He’ll be a vital part of the offense when he returns.

Dobbins was dominant in his rookie season, leading all NFL running backs in yards per carry (6.01) while setting a Ravens’ rookie record with nine rushing touchdowns (third amongst all NFL rookies). His 805 rushing yards were also third among rookie running backs as Dobbins finished with a franchise-record seven consecutive games with a rushing touchdown.

Dobbins closed out the regular season with six consecutive games of 50-plus rushing yards and a rushing touchdown, tying Eric Dickerson (1983) and Franco Harris (1972) for the longest rookie streak of its kind since the AFL-NFL merger. Dobbins is one of just six running backs to have 800 rushing yards, nine rushing touchdowns, and 6.0 yards per carry in a season — and the first rookie to accomplish the feat.

The Ravens are deep in running back depth with Gus Edwards, Mike Davis, Justice Hill, and Tyler Badie — yet having Dobbins at 100% would be a game changer for a team that’s expected to compete for the AFC North title. Baltimore is taking a cautious approach with Dobbins with the depth of its running back room — and can afford to be patient in order to get Dobbins ready for Week 1.

The NBA Has A Special Day Off Planned In November

The 2022 NBA schedule is slowly but surely coming to light.

We still don’t know a lot of the lineups scheduled but more and more of them are being leaked and we are starting to get a clearer picture of the season ahead.

While nothing is 100% confirmed yet, it seems that the league is making a major move to get American citizens involved in their civic duty.

Apparently, the NBA will not have a single game scheduled on Tuesday, November 8, 2022.

That is Election Day in the United States and the NBA is planning to highlight the need for residents to vote.

Instead of playing on that Tuesday, all 30 teams will play the Monday before on a themed “civic engagement night” created to encourage fans, players, and staff to vote in the midterm elections.

This is a gigantic gesture from the NBA but really isn’t surprising.

Election Day Energy

Typically, Election Day is just another day for the league and while there is attention dedicated to reminding folks to vote, things go on like normal for the most part.

That won’t be the case this season.

Over the last few years, the NBA and the players within it have become more involved and vocal about issues they care about, from voting rights to racial equality and so much more.

Additionally, the NBA worked with cities across the country in 2020 to convert 23 arenas and team facilities into voting centers.

Therefore, it’s not a shock to see the NBA make this decision.

While all of this will culminate in a quiet night on Election Day, you can bet there will be a lot of talk around the NBA about voting in the weeks preceding the midterms.
