Cleveland Cavaliers rookie forward/centre Evan Mobley will miss at least the team’s next three games with a left ankle sprain, the team announced Wednesday.

The team said Mobley will now undergo a period of treatment and rehabilitation before the team updates a return-to-play plan.

Mobley suffered the injury Monday, leaving a game against the Orlando Magic.

Mobley is one of the favourites for the NBA’s Rookie of the Year Award, along with Scottie Barnes of the Toronto Raptors and Cade Cunningham of the Detroit Pistons.

The third overall pick in last year’s NBA Draft, Mobley is averaging 14.9 points, 8.3 rebounds and 2.5 assists this season.

The Cavaliers are seventh in the Eastern Conference, one game behind the Toronto Raptors.

The top six teams avoid the play-in tournament.
