The Ravens Are Trying To Continue A Shocking Preseason Streak

The Baltimore Ravens hope to rise from an injury-laden 2021 season.

But though they lost several key players to injuries, they still had a chance to enter the playoffs with an 8-3 record by Week 12.

Unfortunately, quarterback Lamar Jackson suffered an ankle injury that abruptly ended his campaign.

Since then, the Ravens lost all their remaining matches to miss the postseason at 8-9.

This year, Jackson and the Ravens hope to bury their struggles from last season by potentially getting their full roster back.

Yet before they compete in the games that reflect in the standings, they have to continue their great preseason tradition.

ESPN’s Jamison Hensley tweeted, “As Baltimore opens the preseason tonight, the Ravens have won 20 straight preseason games, eclipsing the Vince Lombardi-coached Packers, who won 19 in a row from 1959 to 1962.”

The Ravens will face the Tennessee Titans in an all-AFC showdown.

To put their record in perspective, Baltimore won their three preseason games last season.

They chalked up four wins in 2019, five in 2018, and four each in 2017 and 2016.

Preseason games for 2020 were canceled due to the COVID-19 virus.

Their last defeat came in Week 4 of the 2015 preseason wherein the Atlanta Falcons edged them, 20-19.

They also lost to the Philadelphia Eagles and the then-Washington Redskins in that preseason.

Hoping To Win The Real Games

Of course, the Ravens would like to score more wins during the regular season and the playoffs.

They could not care less about ending their preseason streak if they will gain more victories in the real competition.

Baltimore has the chance to collect more wins with Jackson returning.

The Ravens will also need solid production from Mark Andrews and Rashod Bateman on offense.

Calais Campbell, Tyus Bowser, Marcus Peters, Odafe Oweh, and Marlon Humphrey will be their stalwarts on defense.

Fantasy Baseball Waiver Wire: Vaughn Grissom makes big impression; Vinnie Pasquantino finally coming around

Published

on

The Braves have done this once already this year, promoting a 21-year-old with hardly any experience at even Double-A and immediately inserting him into the starting lineup. It’s how we got Michael Harris, you may remember.

Could lightning strike twice with Vaughn Grissom? Well, one game in, it already seems like it has. The shortstop-turned-second baseman went 2 for 4 with a home run and stolen base in his big-league debut Wednesday.

OK, so one game rarely tells us anything, but there’s also the small matter of what Grissom was doing in the minors. We’ll check out those numbers in a minute, but first, let’s hear Brian Snitker’s reaction to the performance.

“Nothing fazed him,” the manager said before marveling at the home run. “I heard from the guys that that power’s real.”

Indeed, it’s true that the most optimistic scouting reports had Grissom developing power to go along with premium bat-to-ball skills. There was nothing cheap about his home run, which cleared the Green Monster and traveled 412 feet. Even his single he muscled up at 97.8 mph.

His production seemed to improve with every step up the minor-league ladder, capped by a 22-game performance at Double-A Mississippi in which he hit .363 (33 for 91) with three homers, seven steals and a .925 OPS. It’s becoming less fashionable to promote prospects straight from Double-A, particularly ones who’ve played so little there, but maybe the Braves’ internal evaluations are just on another level. With Harris’ immediate success, they’ve earned some benefit of the doubt.

Of course, even once we’ve determined Grissom is good, there’s still the question of whether he could be more than just an injury fill-in this year.

Ja’Marr Chase Is A Walking Highlight At Bengals Camp

It didn’t take long for Cincinnati Bengals wide receiver Ja’Marr Chase to introduce himself to the league.

Aside from helping the squad to a stint at Super Bowl LVI, he also broke Justin Jefferson‘s record for most receiving yards by a rookie with 1,455.

Chase also had 81 receptions and 13 touchdowns in his first NFL campaign.

The former LSU standout also set the single-game record for receiving yards by a rookie at 266.

These numbers earned him inclusion in last year’s Second-Team All-Pro and he was named Offensive Rookie of the Year.

He also made it to the Pro Bowl and the All-Rookie Team by the Pro Football Writers Association.

Now that he has achieved a lot in his brief career, the best encore is to build from his iconic rookie season.

This video shows that Chase is picking up where he left off.

In the short clip shared by the NFL, Bengals quarterback Joe Burrow found Chase who was covered by cornerback Eli Apple.

That’s not a problem as the wideout made a one-handed grab before heading out of bounds.

What’s even more amazing is that Chase didn’t have a full view of the ball.

He anticipated where it would travel and had his hand at the right place.

Bengals Passing Game Looks Solid

Getting more of these amazing grabs from Chase will establish the Bengals as a legitimate contender in the AFC.

But if opposing teams will put multiple defenders on him, Burrow still has other viable options in Tee Higgins and Tyler Boyd.

Higgins had 1,091 yards and six touchdowns last year while Boyd finished with 828 yards and five touchdowns.

Therefore, Cincinnati’s passing game remains dangerous even if they tighten their coverage on Chase.

Yet given his skill, he will eventually get his catches.
