Blue Jays Have A Stacked Rotation To Open The Season

The Toronto Blue Jays have had such a good offseason that they are now probably the favorites to win the tough AL East division.

That’s not insignificant, since the Tampa Bay Rays, the New York Yankees, and the Boston Red Sox are in the same group, and all those squads are clear playoff contenders.

Part of the Jays’ hopes are obviously tied to their great offense, a unit that has the likes of Vladimir Guerrero Jr., Bo Bichette, George Springer, Teoscar Hernandez, Lourdes Gurriel Jr., Cavan Biggio, and three starting-caliber catchers.

However, their starting rotation is much-improved in comparison to last year, and it’s now considered a strength, just as much as their lineup.

“#BlueJays rotation to open the season: José Berríos, Kevin Gausman, Hyun Jin Ryu, Alek Manoah, Yusei Kikuchi,” MLB.com beat writer for the Blue Jays Keegan Matheson tweeted on Wednesday.

The Jays Rotation Is Now A Strength

Berrios is considered one of the most durable starters in the American League, and was recently extended on a huge seven-year deal.

Last year, he had a solid 3.52 ERA in 192 frames between the Minnesota Twins and the Blue Jays.

The rotation lost Cy Young winner Robbie Ray, but the franchise brought in another incredibly talented pitcher in Gausman, who excelled with the San Francisco Giants in the last two seasons.

The rotation has improved so much in the last two years that Ryu, signed to be the ace two years ago, is now the third or fourth starter.

Young phenom Manoah, who impressed as a rookie last year, and offseason acquisition Kikuchi complete the starting five, one of the best in the American League.

Insider Shares Aaron Rodgers’ Role In Current Jets Predicament

It seems that the 2023 NFL season can’t be done soon enough for the New York Jets, which has become a nightmare when it comes to the quarterback position, with Zach Wilson now being thrown back into the mix with a controversy brewing.

The Jets have had zero success in trying to replace superstar quarterback Aaron Rodgers ever since he went down with the Achilles injury to start the season in Week 1, as Wilson wasn’t able to shoulder the load, and neither has Tim Boyle or Trevor Siemian.

Even though there’s been a lot of buzz about Rodgers making a miraculous return to the field, it is looking less and less likely that will happen with the team’s playoff chances taking a massive hit lately.

The team appears to want Wilson back on the field, but there have been conflicting reports about whether he wants to resume the starting job in New York, as it seems he’d rather prioritize his health.

According to Dianna Russini of The Athletic, Rodgers has talked to Wilson about resuming the starting role under center.

Needless to say, the Jets are a mess right now, and it’s anyone’s guess what is going on at this point in time.

However, it’s safe to say that there’s probably a massive shake-up on the horizon, with head coach Robert Saleh potentially losing his job, as well as others on the coaching staff and in the quarterback room.

Only time will tell what will happen with the Jets and how the season will end for this team that had so much promise coming into Week 1.

With Dirk Nowitzki’s career with the Dallas Mavericks winding down, Mark Cuban and company desperately needed to find a player to whom he could pass the torch in order to keep the team relevant with a winning culture moving forward.

Fortunately, the Mavericks were able to land a gem in the form of international superstar Luka Doncic, who immediately became a star on the NBA level after the team brought him in through the NBA Draft via trade with the Atlanta Hawks.

The team has never looked back since bringing in Doncic, as he was able to take over for Nowitzki immediately, even though the German legend wasn’t sure the Slovenian product would be able to transcend his game at the NBA level.

Nowitzki recently made an appearance on the “All The Smoke” podcast and talked about playing with Doncic in Dallas during the twilight of his career and shared his thoughts on how everything went down along with what his expectations were for the versatile youngster.

The Mavericks legend made a comment about their friendship that Doncic couldn’t help but respond to on Twitter.

Even though they didn’t get to share the floor together in their prime, Doncic definitely benefited from soaking up the knowledge from Nowitzki at the tail end of his Hall of Fame career in the NBA.

The only question now is whether he can follow in Nowitzki’s footsteps and bring another NBA title to Dallas at some point during his career, as the pressure is starting to mount for the Mavericks.
