Best and worst Fantasy Football playoff schedules show upside for Jalen Hurts, Logan Thomas, Javonte Williams

On Monday’s episode of the Fantasy Football Today podcast, we talked about some players with good or bad schedules for the Fantasy playoffs, so I figured I’d go a little more in-depth here. Using FullTimeFantasy.com’s rankings of the best schedules for each team from Weeks 14 through 17, which you can find here, I’ve highlighted the three best and worst schedules for each Fantasy position.

But just a quick word: Matchups should only matter so much. You’re not sitting a superstar because of a bad matchup, and you probably aren’t starting most scrubs just because of a good matchup. So, when you’re talking about groups of games like this, it should really just be a tie-breaker — don’t trade a player just because he has a bad playoff schedule, and don’t trade for a player for a good one.

The thing to keep in mind is — and I know this sounds obvious — the playoffs don’t matter if you don’t get there. And the championship doesn’t matter if you don’t win in the first round of the playoffs, and on and on down the line. Plus, you never know how things might shake out; even in the span of just a few weeks, a good matchup might suddenly look a lot worse.

So, don’t take these playoff schedules as gospel. It’s alright to downgrade a player with a tough set of matchups, but don’t overthink it.

Quarterbacks

Best: Eagles (BYE, WAS, NYG, @WAS), Steelers (@MIN, TEN, @KC, CLE), Cowboys (@WAS, @NYG, WAS, ARI)
Worst: Buccaneers (BUF, NO, @CAR, @NYJ), Falcons (@CAR, @SF, DET, @BUF), Chiefs (LV, @LAC, PIT, @CIN)

This is a good example of what I’m talking about: You aren’t going to sit Tom Brady or Patrick Mahomes because of a less-than-ideal slate of games. But, if you wanted to move Brady for full cost — say, you acquire Jalen Hurts plus another solid starting piece like Elijah Moore or Devonta Smith, that’s a smart idea, and it could be one regardless of the schedule.

Running backs

Best: Bills (@TB, CAR, @NE, ATL), Broncos (DET, CIN, @LV, @LAC), Saints (@NYJ, @TB, MIA, CAR)
Worst: Patriots (BYE, @IND, BUF, JAX), Jets (NO, @MIA, JAX, TB), Falcons (@CAR, @SF, DET, @BUF)

If Javonte Williams does come out of the bye with a bigger role this week, the schedule does potentially give him runway for a league-winning finish. Don’t trade for him because of that, but the combination of a potentially very favorable schedule and a possible second half breakout is enough to make him an intriguing target for trades.

Wide receivers

Best: Eagles (BYE, WAS, NYG, @WAS), Dolphins (NYJ, @NO, @TEN), 49ers (@CIN, ATL, @TEN, HOU)
Worst: Buccaneers (BUF, NO, @CAR, @NYJ), Broncos (DET, CIN, @LV, @LAC), Chiefs (LV, @LAC, PIT, @CIN)

The problem for the Eagles is a Week 14 bye. If you’re fighting for a playoff spot, that could prove costly. But, if you’re solidly locked in, they close out the Fantasy season with two games against Washington sandwiched around a home game against the Giants. You can’t really ask for better matchups than those, and it makes Hurts, Devonta Smith, and Dallas Goedert all really intriguing options if you don’t need them for Week 14.

Tight end

Best: Washington (DAL, @PHI, @DAL, PHI), Browns (BAL, LV, GB, @PIT), Giants (@LAC, DAL, @PHI, @CHI)
Worst: Falcons (@CAR, @SF, DET, @BUF), Dolphins (NYJ, @NO, @TEN), Lions (@DEN, ARI, @ATL, @SEA)

On the flip side, the Eagles have been shockingly bad against tight ends, and it isn’t skewed because of a schedule stacked with high-end players. Over just the past three games, they’ve given up double-digit PPR point totals to Adam Trautman, Noah Fant, Albert Okwuegbunam, Stephen Anderson, and Donald Parham. Logan Thomas has struggled to get back from his hamstring injury, but he’s expected to practice in Week 12 and could be back. I like him as a pickup and stash in general, but with a pair of games against both the Cowboys and Eagles to close out his Fantasy season, it’s hard to imagine a much better landing spot for him.

Nets Announcer Describes 1 Player’s Future As ‘Mysterious’

It wasn’t all that long ago that the Brooklyn Nets were considered an NBA superpower, with three of the best players in the league sharing the floor at the same time.

The three-headed monster of Kevin Durant, James Harden and Kyrie Irving was about as intimidating as it gets to opposing teams, but it wasn’t meant to last, with Harden asking out, resulting in Ben Simmons coming to Brooklyn from the Philadelphia 76ers.

Now, Simmons is the last man standing in Brooklyn, with Durant and Irving playing elsewhere after asking out themselves.

However, the defensive-minded Simmons is headed into an uncertain future after being shut down for the season.

Nets announcer Ian Eagles believes Simmons’ future with the team is a mystery.

Few NBA stars with Simmons’ ability have fallen off as he has in such a small window of time.

The former No. 1 overall pick was once considered one of the best defenders in the league and a valuable asset for any NBA team with him on their roster.

After a disastrous end to his stint playing alongside Joel Embiid in Philadelphia and how things have turned out in Brooklyn, Simmons’ time in the NBA may soon end even though he still has an enormous contract.

Simmons is currently the highest-paid player on the Nets at $35.4 million and will be paid $37.8 million next season and $40.3 million the year after.

This is somewhat of a disaster for the Nets, as he’s not worth these numbers anymore, but he’ll also be impossible to trade, which puts Brooklyn in a difficult position.

The Jets Officially Own An Unwanted Mark In Professional Sports

The buzz around the New York Jets surrounds their attempt to land future Hall-of-Fame quarterback Aaron Rodgers, who is currently under contract with the Green Bay Packers.

New York has an interesting young team that features ample talent, especially on the defensive side of the football.

However, the team has been a laughingstock for a long time, and now owns a mark of futility that no one wants, as they have the longest playoff drought in any of our nation’s four major pro sports leagues.

The last time the Jets reached the NFL playoffs was the 2010 season, when they reached the AFC Championship Game for the second year in a row.

But since then, they have mustered just one season with a winning record.

In some markets, perhaps such a long streak of futility would be a little more tolerable, but not in the Tri-state area, where everyone demands greatness from their teams.

The Jets have won only one Super Bowl in their history, which came in Super Bowl III where QB Joe Namath famously guaranteed a win over the favored Baltimore Colts, then delivered just that.

The current iteration of the Jets features the Defensive Rookie of the Year in cornerback Sauce Gardner, wide receiver Garrett Wilson, who is the reigning Offensive Rookie of the Year, and one of Rodgers’ favorite wideouts in Allen Lazard, who spent the last five seasons with the Packers.

The bad news for New York is that even a bounce-back year from Rodgers may mean, at best, a third-place finish in the AFC East, but at least his impending arrival would mean a great shot at returning to the postseason.

A Texans Rule Change Proposal Has Been Approved

It’s never an easy proposition to get the NFL to change things, especially in the first proposal.

But the Houston Texans were able to accomplish that task this week.

The Texans submitted a proposal to have failed fourth-down plays reviewed automatically in the same way that every touchdown is reviewed immediately after a team scores to see if it is legitimate or not.

According to Aaron Wilson of KPRC 2 News, the Texans were successful in their attempt to get the new review procedure approved by the NFL.

The first thing that comes to mind when thinking of this new rule being approved is how long it will take and how much longer it will extend games.

In a society with an attention span that is getting less and less from year to year, professional sports going through a slow and methodical process is something no one wants to see.

However, these fourth downs getting reviewed could and likely will change the outcome of a lot of games in the years to come, which is progress to some extent.

One thing NFL fans have grown tired of, and the same can be said for NBA fans, is that the review process can take too long.

Hopefully, for the sake of the fans and the entertainment factor of games, this review process will be quick, and NFL games can flow, making the experience as entertaining and fair as ever.

Only time will tell how this new rule is perceived and if it is a success for the league and its fans.
