What you need to know about Auburn

The Tigers overcame a big second-half deficit on Wednesday to force overtime and then closed another to force a second overtime. But they couldn’t close the gap in the second overtime as they fell 115-109 to the Connecticut Huskies. Auburn’s defeat came about despite a quality game from guard K.D. Johnson, who had 27 points along with five steals.

It was the Georgia transfer’s first start after playing off the bench in the first three games of the season and he proved to be the heartbeat of the team, even hitting a difficult layup at the end of regulation to force the first overtime. Johnson is now averaging 18.0 points per game and shooting an impressive 47.6 percent from the 3-point line. He’ll be the focus of the Loyola defensive gameplan for good reason, but Auburn has other effective scorers like Jabari Smith and Wendell Green who can hurt them if they’re not careful.

What you need to know about Loyola Chicago

As for the Ramblers, they fell in a 63-61 heartbreaker to the Michigan State Spartans in their last outing. The top scorer for Loyola was Lucas Williamson (16 points). The fifth-year senior has been a major contributor and he’s already having his most productive season of his career.

Williamson is averaging 11.8 points, 6.0 rebounds and 3.8 assists per game while routinely drawing the toughest wing assignment at the other end of the floor. Loyola also has a rotation that goes 10 deep, with eight players averaging at least 6.6 points per game and that scoring versatility will make them a tough matchup.

How to make Loyola Chicago vs. Auburn picks

The model is leaning over on the total and it’s also generated a point-spread pick that is hitting in well over 60 percent of simulations. You can only see the pick at SportsLine.

Zach Wilson Made History Against Patrick Mahomes

The Kansas City Chiefs changed NFL history when they traded up to get Patrick Mahomes.

Mahomes has been the most dominant and spectacular quarterback in the league since he became a starter, and, truth be told, it hasn’t even been that close.

He’s already put up a Hall of Famer kind of résumé, winning two Super Bowls with multiple Super Bowl MVPs, becoming the fastest player to throw for 200+ touchdowns and many more accolades.

However, Zach Wilson was actually the better quarterback when the New York Jets hosted Mahomes and the Chiefs for Sunday Night Football.

According to Opta Stats (via Ben Fawkes), that game marked the first time that an opposing quarterback had more completions, passing yards, TD passes, and fewer interceptions than Mahomes in any of his 127 games dating back to his days in college.

Against all odds, Zach Wilson has now officially become the first quarterback to outplay Patrick Mahomes, even though he ended up losing the game, which is all that matters in the end.

Wilson will look to build on that performance when his team hits the road to take on the Denver Broncos, looking to get their second win of the season.

As for Mahomes and the Chiefs, Sunday Night’s game was a bit of a wake-up call.

They still managed to escape MetLife Stadium with a win, which is — once again — another testament to Mahomes’ greatness.

But they cannot overlook their rivals, and Mahomes needs to get back in the lab for next week’s game.
