After winning the Valspar Championship in late March, Sam Burns now has three PGA Tour victories over the last calendar year. He’s peaking at just the right time with the 2022 Masters teeing off Thursday, April 7. The American hasn’t competed at Augusta National Golf Club before, but if he won the Masters 2022 in his debut, he would become just the fourth golfer to do so. Burns is a 40-1 long shot in the 2022 Masters odds at Caesars Sportsbook, but that’s not far from the 35-1 Hideki Matsuyama had last year prior to his win.

Former World No. 1 Jon Rahm (9-1) tops the Masters odds 2022 and is the only golfer fetching single-digits. Other 2022 Masters favorites include Rory McIlroy (14-1), Dustin Johnson (14-1), Brooks Koepka (18-1) and Jordan Spieth (12-1). Model’s top 2022 Masters predictions 

One major surprise the model is calling for at the 2022 Masters: Rory McIlroy, a 20-time PGA Tour champion and one of the top favorites, stumbles at Augusta and finishes outside the top 10. The 32-year-old finished on top of the leaderboard at the CJ Cup earlier this season, his 20th PGA Tour victory. 

McIlroy is a four-time major champion and can complete the career grand slam with a victory at Augusta National. However, he has been unable to grasp the coveted green jacket despite being in the mix on numerous occasions. McIlroy has finished in the top 10 in six of his last eight starts at Augusta, but the pressure of winning the green jacket seems to be weighing on him. He’s finished 21st or worse in two of his last three starts at Augusta, which includes a missed cut in 2021. He’s not a strong pick to win it all, and there are far better values in the Masters Tournament 2022 field.

Another surprise: Xander Schauffele, a 20-1 long shot, makes a strong run at the title. He’s a target for anyone looking for a huge payday. Schauffele has been one of the most consistent golfers on tour over the last few months, and it all started with a gold medal at last year’s Olympics. He then placed fifth at the Tour Championship and has five top-15 finishes across his last seven events. The San Diego State alum also has prior success at Augusta National Golf Club with a runner-up in 2019 and a third-place finish last year.

Schauffele’s recent surge can be attributed to his ability to consistently break par, which is essential at the Masters 2022. He ranks in the top 10 on tour in birdie average (4.60), while his scoring average of 68.97 is 11th. He also has perhaps the most dependable putter on the PGA Tour, as he hasn’t three-putted in his last 238 holes, the second-longest active streak. The greens at Augusta are renowned for how fast they play, but Schauffele has the game to combat those and excel.
