MLB is a league in which elite pitching usually dominates even the best hitters.

However, we are witnessing two unique offensive performances.

Miami Marlins infielder Luis Arraez is chasing history by trying to become the first player to finish with a.400 average or better since Ted Williams did it in 1941.

In the American League, we have Texas Rangers shortstop Marcus Semien, who has an ongoing 25-game hitting streak.

The league’s official Twitter account sparked a nice debate.

“Luis Arraez (.401 AVG) and Marcus Semien (25-game hit streak) have us wondering … Which feat is more impressive: batting .400 over a full season or a 56-game hitting streak?,” they tweeted.

Obviously, that sparked a conversation.

We do know one thing: 1941 was a historically relevant season in baseball.

That was the year in which Joe DiMaggio had a 56-game hitting streak from May through July.

Coincidentally, it was also the last season in which someone surpassed the .400 threshold.

Arraez is, as of Wednesday afternoon, hitting .401, comfortably leading both leagues in batting average.

Semien had a run-scoring double on Tuesday to extend his hitting streak to 25 games.

Both are incredibly impressive.

Unfortunately, both are extremely unlikely in today’s game.

The fact they are so hard to achieve speaks volumes about the magnitude of what they are doing.

We will see at the end of the season where they finish at at their respective quests.

The sole fact they have advanced this far is worthy of acclaim.

They are having the seasons of their lives, and baseball should celebrate that.
